pollen filter

Featured Replies

Hi All :)

I followed the advice on here and changed my pollen filter as the de-mister was taking ages to clear the screen. The old one was filthy so replaced it, now when i turn on the heat i can hear a loud hiss coming for the area. I have tried taking it out and putting it back in again and it seems to be a good fit but still the hiss!

Any ideas folks?

Cheers

Probably the clip isn't fitted properly. It is possible to fit it back to front and it does appear to fit well. You can check by turning on the fan - if there is air coming out into the footwell it is wrong. Slide clips to centre, pull down, turn 180 degrees, push up, slide clips back. HTH

I think it's the filter being the wrong way round that's the issue, not the cover...

Nah the filter only goes in one way on mine, aswel as the cover only going on one way!

mine made a racket after i changed mine but it was more of a whirring noise combined with a hiss.

turned out to be a vibrating leaf stuck somewhere nearer the fan that after some on-off-on-off-high-off-low-on with the fan without the filter in spat out and hit my other half in the foot! :D

Il get it yet another bash and see what happends!!....But it still has made no impact on clearing the screen!!....Have checked all the floors throught the car and can find no wetness!! Filled her up yesterday and by the time id put the fuel in and paid the screen was completley fogged over and had to clear it with a cloth as the fan made no in-roads!!

Have a look and see if the rubber seals on the door sills are wet, just open up the rubber and see if there's water inside. My carpets aren't wet but the rubbers are soaking that's why mine mist's up in side, getting the car booked in to have the door cards sealed under warranty

Right have been at it again......took the filter out and put back in again.....the noise of the hissing sound is coming from the passenger footwell vent. When i have the blower set on windscreen and all dash vent closed its now blasting air into passenger footwell from the vent next to the filter and some up the windscreen!!

Any ideas folks?

Cheers

if it's blowing into the footwell from around the filter then you haven't put it back in rightwhen i had mine turned on without the filter in it blew an absolute gale in the footwell regardless of the selected direction setting. As far as i am aware air always goes through the filter before going off to whichever direction setting you have chosen.Summin isn't right with the filter wither wrong way round or up or summin. To sort out the moisture try silica gel - you stuff you get in new shoes or leather goods.Put in those packages to absord moisture if you can stick enough in your car over night or on a long drive they should absord any lingering moisture

Nah its not coming from the filter its coming from the vent under the footwell which is rigt next to the filter housing!! To put the filter cover back on is abit of a job and you can see when its on as the wee sliders are gripping the runners to hold it in place. When i used to have it blowing on the windscreen it was like a gale up there and nowhere else...now its blowing there and the footwell vent !!

lol

no idea then sorry mate!mine came out blew a gale in the footwell disloged the offending noisy leaf and went back in fine after a couple of attempts

I have the same problem..

Only seems to fit one way, and still makes a hiss.

Air is coming down to the footwell, but only a little bit.

I do mist up a bit, but that's because I had a slight leak; and its sorted now.

My fans do eventually clear them, but it is slow.

(They also take a while to actually get hot..)

If you find out a fix, tell me :(

Ok then ...Now have seemed to have stopped the gale blowing into footwell when on window setting :) Dont ask how as i dont know!! Took it out a few more times and then it just stopped. Unfortunatley it hasnt stopped the really loud hissing!!...Have to have the stereo on full bhuna to drown it out!!

When the pollen filter is fitted into the removable frame, the top fold of the filter paper must be placed into the frames top channel, Same goes for the bottom one. Kind of hard to explain, will try to find a diagram.

Do you have the chilled Airbox facility ?? Perhaps the Hose has come off behind the glovebox, It had on mine & was making loud noises as described by you.. I refitted it & held in place with a jubilee clip, as it was not the tightest of fits ..Dean

The pollen filter is awkward to refit I dicovered that the frame has a small protruding catch on it that must slot up in to the recess to get it to fit in properly it has to be on the side nearest to the gear knob as well even though it will fit the wrong way.

Plus as MoggyTech explains the filter fitting is important as well plus the plastic flexible runners or guides have to locate properly, Certainly not an easy job to do especially if its wet and cold.

Yeh i checked that the filter was seated correctly in the frame...the destructions are on the inside of the new filter box :) Might have a nosey around later and see if i can see anything that might be loose or just generaly in the way :)
