Ice!! eeepp

Featured Replies

I know we've had huge problems up here recently, I know we still have water flowing accross the roads, but they really should be gritted, they seem to have forgotten (I doubt the gritting lorry drivers are building the new bridges) this big freeze up here (It's was already -2 when I drove home) is causing some serious ice patches, its the first time they seem to have forgotten to grit since I've lived here, the forcast was for freezing temps for days now...

just been to the supermarket and got "squirmy" (Thanks ESP) as I slowed for water crossing the road, it was all ice around the main "flow" ... It was dark, I knew the road, and knew where it was, and was driving at appropriate speed (approx 30mph when I started to slow) but its a reasonably clear stretch of country road with 60 mph limit... people who don't know the road may well end up in t the field :( hope evryone round here drives carefully tonight!

Some authorities are not as expedient as their neighbors. The County that I live in is always very slow in spreading salt and grit or anything else like clearing the roads. One can be happily driving along in one county with well gritted roads and literally cross the border as on a map and it can be like a skating ring in the next county..

Our chaps were out at 4pm yesterday ready for this morning.

They've started gritting here in Oxford. Got a nice shower of the stuff down the side of my car earlier

The problem is I suspect that Keswick is covered from Workington and the gritters are struggling with the traffic gridlock that is now the A66.
