Easy areas to lose weight

Featured Replies

OK - The fabia is going on a diet and so far the only things that are very likely to go are:

1) the padding underneath the carpet

2) the rear woofers (although going to wire them up so the rear tweeters still work....??)

I am thinking of other areas of interest now - Anything aircon related behind the dash?I want to maintain some semblance of normality though, so trim etc as generally light, will be left in. I am going to be thinking of mainly metallic bits, hence me still contemplating the use of a disc cutter behind the 4 door cards, and behind the boot trim too.....

Put in light weight front seats ;)

Yeah, thought about that. Rear windows rarely get used anyway. HmmmmMr W - Ummm, no. :P

Removing the electric windows

I think elec windows are enough of a "comfort" to leave to be honest

However if there is any surplus metalwork around that area..... [fires up the grinder!]

You expect me to remember what I posted on here over 3 years ago?

you could take the rear window regulators out and just fix the windows in the up position

Still got the rear wiper/motor on ?

That could go...every little helps. :)

Have a poo before you drive? And don't forget to shave, clip your toenails, blow your nose, keep your hair cut short, maybe a full body wax?

Every little helps!

Lightweight wheels Jason - its AMAZING the difference a couple of kgs off each corner will make...

Replace your brakes with smaller ones. :D

That's a good one. :) I expect sticking up with polyurethane adhesive would seal it enough, or something from the underside/inside the door.Rear wiper motor died and has been removed and not replaced, so that's about 500 grams or so.....

Tom's right here, it's just un-sprung weight. Super light wheels will make a dramatic difference..

Time to keep an eye out for some superleggeras for track use then. For road use I am happy to stick with my evolos. :)

Dump the custom bonnet lifter :D that out to save at least 30grams and make a world of difference. ;)

Lightweight battery? :)

go on a diet ? ;-)

Bumping this.

Thinking of reducing weight without spending a bomb and making it look like a shed/race car! ha, I've done this to another car in the past with some success, things I'm thinking of is.

Lightweight battery - 6KG?

Remove toolkit and spare wheels and replace with puncture repair system - 10KG?

Various plastic covers removal on battery and cam case - 2KG?

Lighter aftermarket suspension though i suspect this will be minimal?

Remove aircon - 5KG?

Take a turd/pee - 0.9KG :p ?

Lightweight wheels? - though can get expensive and effect grip.

Don't think there's a lot to do unsprung wise.

How about hacking some under bonnet supports in the boot area, bonnet area on the door etc?

However i estimate you would need to shift around 40KG to make some difference to acceleration etc, still it will always have a roughly 66/33 weight distribution.

What do we think?

More carbon fibre body panels. Wings, door skins, boot

Remove the air filter completely? Also gives less restricted airflow :)

You could maybe cut out the roof and replace with plastic, which should also lower the centre of gravity

not so great if performing inverted manouvers without a roll cage though :D

You could cut the rear spare wheel floor pan out and replace it with a sheet of thin gauge flat metal sheet.

you could skim some weight off this nut behind the wheel.....

loose the big boat anchor from the engine bay?

What about the black stuff that covers the floor pan. Its sound proofing i think. You've gotten rid of the underlay so may aswell take that up aswell.
