Unleaded Vs Super Unleaded

Featured Replies

If they were the same cost which it is at bp when they run out of unleaded as of last week in wolverhampton, would it damage the engine (1.2 12v)?

No

No, you'll be fine :)

has anyone tried using superunleaded? what about filling up with superunleaded if u've still got some unlead left in the tank?

I'm sure plenty of people have done this, as above you'll be fine, mixing it won't hurt anything.

It may even do your engine some good :)

Your car being a small non-turbo will not gain any performance advantage when using Super fuel. You will only find your wallet is a bit lighter than normal. :dull: It only works for highly tuned turbo-charged cars where their ECU can take advantage to the increased octane number.

My car's niether highly tuned, or turbo'd... and it runs much smoother on 99ron, and I get 20% increase in MPG...

which engine have u got?

does anyone know what ron rating is bp super unleaded?

i thought engines were made to run the normal 95 RON unless the car is fitted with an anti knock sensor which can detect the difference in fuel (97,99 ron) and make use of it?

otherwise its pointless and will maybe just help clean the engine a little and get slighly more MPG out of the car

This is not true, high octane fuel does not just benefit large turbocharged motors. The 1.4 16v 100BHP in the MK1 Fabia is designed and optimised for high octane fuel, as are the VW group FSI engines that dont actually work properly unless you use high octane fuel.

2.8 12v V6, it's old, but it still likes the good stuff!

BP is 97/98 I believe.

Your Ocatvia vRS should be run 97 minimum with 95 used "for short periods, with reduced performance".

Correct :)

Had exactly the same findings as I have now when I had my 1.4 16v Lupo Sport - engine ran smoother, and gave increased economy.
