Ubuntu

Featured Replies

I have always stuck with windows for an OS, I was going to upgrade to 7 as it seems a bit lighter that vista. Even though im running 2.2ghz duo processor and 3gb of ram on my laptop it still felt very slugish. At the last minute I decided I would give Linux Ubuntu a go. Laptop now starts up and loads programs with out lagging within 40 seconds and shuts down in less than 7, this wasn't even a clean install, I still have vista as well. TBH I will not be buying windows 7 now:rofl:

I am officially converted B)

It does run along nicely, I tend to use it on older machines. Still run 7 though, on other stuff :D

One thing I did have problems was when I used vista again I had to do a deep defreg/disc clean up... I have been using WINE to run MS stuff, seems to work fine for small programs, not tried to run photoshop cs4 yet...

Welcome to the dark side :)

I will be looking to joining the dark side on a nearly full time basis once I build my new computer. I still need to maintain Windows for some tasks due to college and work (I know I can do most of them in Ubuntu, but somethings Open Office just doesn't do)

Got it all planned out that I will be going for a multi boot system, Windows 7 Professional, Ubuntu and Windows XP (for gaming).

I'm running it on my netbook (it came installed with it), works fine for what it is.

Still prefer Windows for proper computing!

I use ubuntu on older/slower machines as they seems to cope a lot better with it than windows.

I recently installed Win 7 on my desktop and although already fast with win 7 it is even faster now. I like Ubuntu but couldn't use it as a full time replacement for windows.

The only machine I'm using Ubuntu on at the moment is my digital photo frame (old laptop with some 'slight' modifications) and it is perfect for that!
