Fabia lowering issues?

Featured Replies

Hi guys!!

I bought lowering springs for my Fabia ('05) and 17" wheels.. have you guys had any issues as a consecuence of lowering your car(s)? A friend of mine mentioned something about oil leeks etc etc. but some other people tell me there's no problem if you drive carefully.. Any advices? Pointers? Experiences? Pros / Cons?

Proverbial can of worms

Some people have damaged the sump. Some people have induced horrid suspension noises. Others have experienced rapid inner tyre wear. All have more expensive insurance

Damn... not the answer I was expecting :(

Think you'll find all those problems with lowering any car tbh and I don't think most have any issues! Obviously comfort will be sacrificed slightly. For uneven tyre wear getting a geometry check will hopefully sort it afterwards... obviously after modifying suspension this should be done anyway. I recommend reading the sticky on these forms before forking out for alignment checks.

Not heard of oil leaks caused by lowering, apart from those that gouge a big hole in the sump lol

I'm still standard and I have enough clonks and creaks to last a lifetime, so it can happen regardless of lowering ;)

Ive not had a problem with my Eibach springs / standard damper setup. They have been on the car for 30,000 miles now. Overall I would say the ride comfort was actually slightly better than standard, as it does not wallow around, and its certainly not any firmer. Occasional clunk here and there, but had that with the standard setup too.

I think Eibachs (or anything around -30mm) are low enough to be honest if you are looking to use the car everyday, without having to plan your route home to avoid any dodgy road surfaces!

There is Eibachs and 17" wheels

Only issue I see is that you will need a wheel alignment afterwards. My camber and toe were both out after lowering and fitting Cupra console bushes.

Im with sleithykeithy too, I think Eibachs actually improved the ride from OE springs. Definately handles better, and isnt too low you, so you dont have to avoid speed bumps :)

With Eibachs and 17", on full lock to the right there is slight rubbing between the anti roll bar and, I assume , the track rod. This can be avoided, so I'm told, by fitting the collars which come with the Eibachs to both ends of the steering rack. After fitting, these collars restrict the travel, hence avoiding the rubbing. I decided, along with most of the guys here, to ignore this mod and instead, I just stop short of full-right lock. Works fine other than when I forget. Then, you're reminded, in no uncertain fashion.

Other than this, I kinda go along with the comments of the others.

Must add though, I experience some alarming "thuds" when front wheels are exiting certain types of deepish road surface imperfections.

Never fitted my stops that came in the box, and had no steering issues either.

As for road imperfections, I cant comment because i try my best to avoid them all

Ah, the latter. Now there's a wee gem. In future, like you, I'll try and avoid them!!!!!!!

You know, I don't know how I manged prior to joining Briskoda. Really don't.

Merry Xmas.

Thank you all for your feedback :)

I think it all comes down to how much care you put into driving after the car has been lowered!

A little off topic, but just wanted to share my happiness from this morning when they started re-laying the worse part of my commute! Happy Days!

Hahahaha, bet your car is happy too!! :) Cheers!!

Only problem i've had is that my bump stops are broken on the back. Getting Coilies in the spring, so i'll leave it until then.
