Farkle

Featured Replies

A definition from the motorcycling community:

"The word is generally accepted to mean a combination of "function" and "sparkle", hence, farkle.

Motorcycle enthusiasts may install accessories, called farkles (also spelled farkel), to customize their machine.

One source attributes the term to Pete Wells, the organizer of a 1997 Honda ST1100 rally"

Anyone started accessorising yet?

tom

Ya'll need some rims!

Got my amp and powered subwoofer ready.

Was looking in the accessories brochure and the trims for the lower bumper (where foglight would be on a "normal" car !) and the exhaust trims look quite nice.

When it arives (CR110 SE) my first will probably be underseat storage boxes.

I am also interested in exploring the spare wheel options, particularly how to fit a full size alloy in the boot i.e. how much do the polystyrene bits cost and would a full size 17" alloy wheel raise the boot floor too high?

tom

I know killy has some of the dealer fit trims like the silver wing mirror covers and side sill covers on his Yeti.

See:My link

Will be leaving mine as stock with the exception maybe of winter wheels.

I know I need to get out more, but I like silvered indicator bulbs which keeps 'white/silver' light lenses 'white/silver' - if that makes sense.

Rear light access on the Yeti aren't a problem. Front indicators are inaccessible for the moment - manual says visit a 'specialist garage'. It may be possible to get to them through the wheel arch liners, you certainly can't get to them from under the bonnet. Why don't manufacturers make cars maintainable for things like light bulbs - front side lights had the same problem on my Fabia vRS with Xenons? :'(

I'll be doing that upgrade too !

Got some for the wife's car which have a slight "bluey" tinge to them when off, might suit the steel grey I've gone for.

Is that a hangar you're parked in ? What were you sharing it with ?

I put it in the front of 'my' hangar (work!) yesterday. At the moment we have a Piper Tomahawk, Piper Archer (the green wing in the background), DH Chipmunk, Piper Dakota, Robin DR400 and a Cessna 150 Aerobat - all in on maintenance (and parts of a Van's RV-12 I am building). The Robin and Dakota are ready to fly home but the snow scuppered that plan!

It looks good with the silver indicator bulbs in the rear lights! Good mod, might be doing that myself B) When it comes to the front indicators, I really don't get it.. The workshop manual shows an illustration of a cover with screws and a sealing ring/o-ring, but no such thing on my car... I took of the front bumper cover and the wheel arch liners to have a look at the Webasto heater, and when having removed those parts, the front headlamps are fully visible from all sides, and no cover with screws like in the illustration. I'm guessing that the factory think there will be no need to access the indicator bulbs as the "service opening" is moulded shut. To access the bulbs, you would have to cut out a part of the moulded headlight housing, and probably order the cover, o-ring and screws from the parts department.

I don't know if my car is the only one to not have the access covers, as it's the first Yeti I have removed the front bumper cover and arch liners on :smirk:

Time will tell, and you will see wether you have the covers or if the service opening is moulded shut if you remove the arch liners.

Merry christmas!

I replaced all the bulbs in the wife's Smax - it was actually easier to undo the whole lamp assembly rather than contort under the bonnet.

All makes a bit of a mockery of carrying spare bulbs if it's a dealer-only job to fit them !

Same here, I'm going to change the Tax Disc holder for a £3 magnetic one from Halfords (with no advertising) and upgrading the HI FI with a 4GB SD card. Thats more than cool enought for me

I'll be doing those also !! First thing I do with a new car is bin the dealer tax holder and flyer on the rear window !

Going for a class 6 4gb card - should be quicker to index / access.
