Looking for extra performance. RS CR

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I want to increase the performance of my CR 170 engine. I have a ITG panel filter and a remap giving 200 bhp and 352 lb/ft of torque, but I'd like to increase the bhp some more and in particular the top end power. The torque figure is more than enough. I was thinking of fitting a cold air intake, but I dont know if the gain would be worth it or the extra induction noise? The other thing I was looking at was getting the map tweaked but again I'm limited by the DPF. Any Ideas?

The DPF can be removed, and a subsequent remap should yield about 220bhp!! Get it to P-Torque or another of the site sponsors, circa £795 IIRC.

Step 1:

Sell Diesel

Step 2:

Buy TSI vRS

Step 3:

Enjoy!

Thats something I would love to do but £800 for 20bhp is just too expensive. If I hot the map tweaked I might get 10-15bhp extra without the DPF being effected...

Three hours work will solve your OEM DPF, You can do this yourself and at no cost .

You'll be able to get your Map tweaked for handy money.

Piezo Injectors only operate comfortably until 230 i was told

I'm looking at putting in a home made forced induction using either an ITG or K&N Cone Filter, extracter fan flex pipe and some heat sheild for an airbox.

Id could do that myself alrighit as I'm fairly handy. Just would need someone to weld the plate back on for me.

How long would I have to get the map altered to bypass the sensors?

Also if I have the car remapped already do I need to get the same people to do the tweaking? i'd be upping the boost pressure too ;)

Hi again,

Shouldn't be a major problem finding someone to tack & weld the section back on, just make sure they grind down the first line and look for any holes, fill them, and then give it another line. Also, only use a 1mm thin cut disc, as anything wider will create a gap that is hard to fill with the MIG.

DPF REMOVAL GUIDE

I drove 200 Miles (Mayo-Dublin) with it done, so you will have no problem. They say, it's good for about 500 - 750 miles (Tested on SeatCupra.net PD170 Leon)

With regard to your Mapper, it's all about remapping the setpoints of the pressure difference to values that they will realistically never acheive !!

While your at it, lower the Torque peak of the powerband and widen it out so that you gat a more steady pull throughout the rpm range.

While i have ya, What type of ITG filter do you use. Did you buy from Urban Performance Tallaght ? As you may have seen in the above post, i'm planning on making an initial forced induction pipe from hose, then i'll manufacture it from S/S . The most important thing will be preventing the air from being too turbulent going into the MAF, otherwise it will be reading wrong. The ribs in the above pictured hose IMO would completely throw the MAF off.!!

I'll manufacture a replica of the connection that bolts directly onto the MAF, so it will look nice. I saw i nice tidy job done with heat shield as an airbox

What type of figures have you got since the map and DPF removed? Is their much difference in mid range to top end pull?

Also would it be better to but out via DPF and weld in a section of pipe?

Intake is deffinatly worth doing.

removing the DPF isnt as easy as welding a section of pipe in, not unless your a very good fabricator, it would be easier to buy a scrap DPF, cut it open, knock the ceramic out and weld it back up empty. It's been done and I think there's even a writeup in the Octy II forum

Have you done any handling MODs? That will help to go quicker?

Yeah, that was me ;)

id say a remap an dpf delete pipe
