Could you put a PD130 Fabia vRS engine into a Roomster?

Featured Replies

With Old Faithful Fabia at nearly 130k and re-sale value being nowt TBH with modifications, no interior save for some seats and a dash board.

II'll look to keep the Fabia SORN I would think for trackdays etc. until it goes bang and unlikely that I'll invest any more serious money to go to bigger turbo, FMIC etc. so I got to thinking about the next "project".

Love the practicality of the vRoomster and have thought about how far you could go with modifying that to be a real animal of a sleeper

So could you "drop in" a PD130 and a six speed box (something that the Roomster seriously lacks IMHO) given that the front end of the Roomster/Fabia II is essentially a MK I Fabia with a skin job?

Love this idea. :)

Thr one person who would know is Jason .....it would be virtually what he did to the mongrel

I recall that something along these lines was once asked by Fluffmeister, although it might have been about putting the PD130 bits on the PD105 in his old Scout to make it PD130 spec.

You can get 150bhp out of it with very little work, but it will need a lot more to get it much over. Problem I see with a 130 transplant is the clocks, with a fabia to fabia it's straight swap, but not with this. The clock have the immobiliser in.... The PD130 has several different internals to the PD105 as well so swapping bits doesn't a PD130 make unless it's major surgery

It's a lot of work but to be honest even with the Dragon Box on mine running between 130-140 it sometimes struggles to keep the power on the floor, I'd look at that before any big power increases.

A thanks button would be great :giggle: but this method increases ones post count :rubchin:

Potentially then if a engine, box, clocks (assuming they'd fit the roomster dash) and an ECU could be sourced from a written off Fabia vRS then I could be onto a winner?

Yeah, I was doing well with the thanks but I would settle for Freedom green being I paid my subs about 2 weeks ago now

It's a LOT of work and I am not sure the clocks would be a straight fit. As long as you have the patience and cash then of course a solution can be found. You could probably swap the box easy enough but it adds at least 30kg to the front end which doesn't sound like a lot but could be enought to have to make a few more mods...and then you start on the slope...

I think, reading abck through a few old threads on here, TDI sport and Mk4's then with injectors, turbo (Hybrid), manifolds, Zorst, FMIC, camshaft and a custom map you can get about 200bhp put of the PD100 but it's not going to be useable unless you do some serious suspension mods.

If it were me......

FMIC

Hybrid or at least PD130 turbo

Straight through zorst

LSD

Full Eibachs with FSD shocks

Custom map for power range not outright power

312's

Reckon that would set you about £3k if you did the brakes, FMIC and blower yourself. If you can strip more from a VRS then great but I would try to find a written off PD150......(Unless of course if you already have a dead VRS)

Should sit around 170bhp is and be very drivable if you get a good long curve from the map. It's about 40-50kg less than the VRS as well should it will handle better and go better ;)

And I think the suspension and drive shafts are different too

Would imagine you'd need to take everything out the vRS and chuck it in the Roomster really. However, there are a few mods to get it to 190bhp odd without too much gutting out needed. Turbo, injectors, clutch, intercooler, remap and then other bits to suit.

immobiliser defeat for 80 quid would sort this out no probs,a good person to contact for this would be ben at shark performance as he did mine for my current ongoing project, and there would be no need to use fabia clocks then
