Rear wiper not working !

Featured Replies

The rear wiper stopped working on my vrs today.

The front ones work fine and the water will spray onto the rear window but the wiper wont work !

When I switched it on it moved about an inch then stopped, I've checked fuse 32 which the manual says is for the rear window but its fine ??

Any ideas anyone ?

Thanks

Sounds like the motor or motor position park switch is faulty. If it helps, here is the wiring colours and pin numbers on the motor.

Pin 1 Brown Earth

Pin 2 Green/White Tracer Motor on feed from wash wipe switch

Pin 3 Green/Red Tracer Motor on feed from Washer motor

Pin 4 Black 12V feed from Fuse 32 (10 AMP)

I had a similar problem yesterday with the wife's Fabia. I cleared the ice off of the car and freed the wiper blades and went to the supermarket. Came back to the car went to reverse, forgetting the front wiper was on and the rear wiper tried to wipe and moved about an inch, but had frozen to the screen while I was in the shop. I checked fuse No. 32 and it looked OK, but when I tested it it was blown. I changed the fuse and all was OK.

Fuse No. 32 is 10 amp and the 2nd one from the top on the left hand side.

If it's not the fuse you'll need to see if you are getting 12v at the rear wiper motor connection when the wiper is on.

Thanks Moggy and Moley

I'll change the fuse and see if it works

Thanks

If it not the fuse it will probably be the wiper motor. This is what failed with me earlier this year. Unfortunately they are about £85 from Skoda, but I used a specialist Skoda Scrap yard SkoSpares. SkoSpares It was £20 plus VAT and P&P, second hand. I was fortunate to test my motor on another Fabia that proved it was my motor was faulty.

Thanks for the info, hopefull its just a fuse/relay, I'll have another look in the morning

Thanks

in the worst case, if its the motor it should be relatively simple to change over yourself... talking removing some trim with a pull and undoing 3-4 nuts from what i remember!

Well I think I have broken it today  :(

I tried a new fuse in #32, turned ignition on and still no luck !

I don't know why I wanted to put the old fuse back in put I took the new fuse out while the ignition was still on and now the coil light is flashing and the EML is on constantly :swear:

It starts and runs absolutly fine but looks like a trip to the dealer ! I feel like a right tool :S

Oh dear, not sure what you have done there, as F32 simply feeds the wiper circuit. Are you sure you have been pulling the correct fuse? The RHD fuse layout is different, and the diagram is confusing to say the least. Hopefully just a code reset needed to clear the lights.

The fuse to the right of 32 is 24, which is also a 10amp and is engine electronics.

Hmm... well this morning neither the EML or glow plug light is on but they were still on last night !!

The rear wiper still isn't working but whatever the fault was regarding the light it has fixed itself over night :D rather strange !

Spurious fault stored in the ECU will clear after so many ignition starts. Modern cars get confused easily

Thanks Moggy, thats saved me a few quid at the dealers lol

Hello guyz, in my case the rear washer fluid line had cracked and was spiling fluid on the connector for the rear wiper causing it to not function.  Strangely it did not blow any fuses and i was able to dry the connector, blasted some silicone spray into the connector and fixed it.

But in case anyone is still looking for a fix i will add some files with the procedure for testing the rear wiper that i took from the repair manual.

Cheers!
