My Octy-Golf project

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am new here. Let me explain why I have joined Briskoda. I have always been a big fan of the Golf GTi but in all honesty can not afford a recent example. I have however been able to buy an Octy vRS. This car drives well, but I can not live with the stigma of the Skoda badge or the poor quality interior.

I have also bought a 1.6 engined Mk IV Golf with a trashed engine for not very much. I am planning to transplant the engine, brakes, clutch etc from the Octy to the Golf and would hope to transfer the sporty dials from the instrument panel if that is possible.

Has anyone here any expereince of doing this type of job?

As far as I can see the instrument clusters are different shapes so won't be a straight swap. However if you're confident enough to take on what's basically gonna be a bare shell rebuild then you should be able to figure a way to do it.

If you don't like the skoda for quality and the stigma, why didn't you go for the SEAT Leon??? ....Just curious! :o

The Octavia has a better quality interior than the Leon IMHO.

The Octavia has a better quality interior than the Leon IMHO.

....True but less of a stigma attached to it! :(

Golf GTi but in all honesty can not afford a recent example...

I'm not convinced taking a damaged Golf and filling it Octavia parts is necessarily a shrewd financial move either.

Instead of having a standard and tidy example of an Octy vRS, you'll have a totally non-standard Golf and the shell of an Octy vRS. This shell probably will be worth less then what you paid for the Golf shell, and the Golf may present issues to insurers and future purchasers...

This must be a wind-up surely??

Quite possibly...there is a similarity of IP addresses between this and a couple of other members... :rubchin:

You have to feel sorry for the poor dear, don't you, since he's obviously come down in the world......

Octy69: "This car drives well, but I can not live with the stigma of the Skoda badge or the poor quality interior"

Then one has to ask the question: Why did you buy it??

William: Did you know you have a pair of Y-fronts on your head

Well he obviously bought it with a view to putting the bits in the MKIV. Now why anyone would do that is the real question. If this isn't a wind up then fair play he's had the balls to come on here and ask for advice. Maybe he'll be able to screw the MKIV together better than our illustrious cousins in Wolfsburg. Which wouldn't be hard to do. Trust me, I know.

In the meantime, however deluded, we should help our fellow member. Obviously a cut and shut with blue dials is a truly rare beast and well worth the effort.

 Octy69

Oh, Is that his head. I thought the Y-fronts were in the place you normally put them:D

A stigma attatched to owning a Skoda?

According to who?

Meaningless plebs who whan confronted with an Octavia or Fabia would not recognise one if they were run over by it?

...Or real car people who matter.

People who actually have a brain, don't have to buy Nike sportswear 'Because every other pleb thinks it's cool' and can actually make up their own mind about what is good or bad...

Do tell me you are not buying a car to impress other people, because if you think about what that makes you, you ain't gonna be too impressed!

Make your own choices, and stand by them because every other member of this forum has done just that! They have owned, and some still do, some fantastic cars, but have discovered that the Skoda badge in it's current guise is a force to be reckoned with, and now THE benchmark for European cars to meet.

Regards, John

(p.s. you can stick yer Golf...lol)

Relax John,Methinks its only a wind up ;)

or the poor quality interior.
