Well like i say, ive had my superb almost 3yrs now, and its performed impeccably on our holidays to france, the latter being a 15hr cruise from calais to frejus. We never went above the 2,000 rpm mark and in 6th gear it was poodling along at almost 80mph, which in my opinion didnt even hurt the engine. I firmly believe that with very regular oil changes and filter changes will only increase the life expectancy of these vehicles, regardless of what some unfortunate superbs have gone through what with engine malfunctions and other failures.

Ive been in a 140bhp six speed manual elegance superb with 97k miles on the clock, being used as a taxi, and the driver reported no ill feelings with his car...quoted as saying it was serviced more than regularly, and he was more than happy with it. So having heard him say that only confirmed my old saying.........look after the car and it will look after you.

I'm wondering if it's a variable servicing problem, how often do you drop the oil Nutty ?

iirc the guy I know who had the issues waits for the light to say change it, so it could be that is the problem, 10k regular and maybe all will be well, gotta remember VAG are only interested and liable for it to 60k, iirc his failed at around 85k, so for VAG it's win win in a way, it'll probably last the 60k, and then we can sell you a new turbo and possibly an engine, appy vag days.

well i feel the cost of genuine 5w30 spec oil from the dealer and genuine filter and genuine sump plug every 6,000 miles is peanuts as i get charged about £75 for the lot inc vat....cheaper than the main dealer thats for sure, and the garage i go to is vat registered i get the book stamped up....will need a new book soon lol....but the stamp says every 6,000, which is much better than waiting for the service light to come on....id sooner run the engine on clean oil rather than black carbonized stuff...plus the car gets new filters oil/air/ pollen and sump plug at the same time...maybe thats why i feel the car drives super smooth with very little smoke if any when i pulls away when needed.

i know reading these forums are basically interesting reading....ive even used some advice given on here ie.. making the left hand fog light come on when it wasnt wired up....checking th pollen filter housing...even adjusting headlights to continental driving was excellent tips, and i always help in replies if i feel i know the answers to members problems with their cars...and likewise when they reply to my queries concerning my particular model superb.

But i do check under the bonnet on a daily basis....and after 3years, the engine still looks and feels the same after i bought it new....ok its only done 33k miles....and i dont have any issues with it at all, well maybe one....and thats the front end liking rubber tryes....but now i bought a set of decent rubber, they should last a lot longer.

Your engine may look and feel the same but I bet your bonnet catch knackered! :D

Do a levels check every 3-4 weeks, along with tyre pressures and keep an eye on the pads as time goes by. Get the car on axel stands and have a feel of suspension maybe once or twice a year. That's about it ... but it's more than the average driver I guess.

the only thing knackered is my back checking the fluids on a daily basis :giggle: .......besides it gets me out the house.....sitting indoors watching the telly is boring

I wouldn't bet on it bud, I wore a set of Bridgestones out in 8k on the front, this last set of Wanli's have done just over 10k and are near the limit now, but they are so hard it's like a bearing is gone, and you can feel it @ 2000 rpm from standstill through the steering wheel.

Pirelli P6000's are my next experiment, I had one part worn on her and it seemed to wear reasonably.

yes ive had a couple of tyres on my superb superbia, and they all seemed to wear out on the fronts sooner than i expected...and they arent cheap brands either...though the ones i eventually went for were dunlop spt fast response brand, and the were fitted 6mths ago, and the drive is very quiet and smooth, which is what the superb is all about in my opinion. Handles excellently in dry and wet conditions, and wear wise, they seem to be holding up pretty well.

I would say they were mid range pricing around £70.00 each...of course it all depends on ones budget at the time...and my wife has a nasty habit of removing the lettering on previous tyres by kerbing...now that ive shown her how to park the car using the middle of the bonnet married up with the edgeof the kerb from where she is sitting in the drivers seat, the car is about 6inches away from the kerb !! So far so good

I've had a pair of p6000's on the front that covered 17k in the past 9 months and have been brilliant. They still have a lot if life left in them and just recently swaped them over with the back tyres to extend their life. I've had the same sized tyres in the past on my previous car (bridgestones) and went through them in 10k.

My 2.5TDi has done just over 48k miles now. It has the original rear tyres (Michelin IIRC) and is on it's first replacement set on the front. They are National tyres own brand, Millenium. I reckon looking at the front and rear tyres that I'll replace all four of them at around 58 to 60k miles or so. Not bad considering. If I can still get them in around 15 months time or so, I'll put 4 x Milleniums on it when its due.

My VRs Fabia has just had the fronts replaced at 20k miles, they were Bridgstones and I've put Pirellis on it.

There's a lot to be said for matching the car to the tyre, those Bridgestones I spoke of earlier that did 8k on the Sup, were the same tyre as I had on my Vectra C, only she did 26k on the fronts and the rears had 4mm left on them @ 41k when the car got written off.
