front wiper failure

Featured Replies

hi. my wipers have packed in on my 54plate vrs. the back one works as normal, but also works when you pull the stalk back to spray the front windows. the front window wipers dont work at all. checked the fuse, thats ok, any more ideas? my thinking is some moisture has got in somewhere due to the -4c temperature outside. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

andy

Got to be Fuse 15 (10 Amp), sure you replaced the correct fuse? Really sure? Absolutely stake your life on it?

Hi Andy

Its poss the linkage that has sized up, common problem, has happened to my sons L&K

You need to strip down the linkage, by removing the scuttle, and the wiper nuts, and undoing the bolts that hold the motor and the linkage, and remove the hole lot in one

go, then push out the clip and work the shafts out from the outer sleeve, and then grease up and refit the parts and the whole assy back on the car and it should work fine.

Fuse 15. MIne did it this morning..

Whoever decided that a fuse blown by trying to use a frozen washer bottle would disable the front wipers is a complete idiot in my book.

I had the same problem this afternoon and the fault with mine was that snow had built up at the bottom of the screen so when the wipers returned back to its off position it was actually about 2" away from that position. On removing the snow from the bottom of the screen the wipers started working again.

Indeed. If the frozen washer bottle blows the fuse then this fuse should be FOR THE WASHER BOTTLE ONLY, not hard is it.

I was thinking about this, and could it be another Fabia "Safety" feature? As a dirty screen wipe with no water would make things worse?

There is nothing wrong with the design regarding Fuse 15 supplying power to wash wipe and wipers. This will no doubt upset those who think cars should be perfect and drive away without any input from the user on the coldest of mornings.

1: Do not use wash system if it's frozen. It wont freeze if users have the correct concentration of screen wash in the bottle

2: Do not try to use wipers if they are frozen to the windscreen. Clear the screen of snow and ice, and that includes the scuttle area, so that the wipers can operate properly.

3: Make sure wiper arm sections are not frozen. The blade cannot contour to the screen if the wiper sections are frozen into one shape.

Even if the designers stuck a separate fuse in there for wash and wipers, guess what, people who don't make sure the car is fit to drive will have two blown fuses to contend with  :p

moggy, you already have 2 fuses to contend with. theres a fuse for the back wiper, a fuse for the front wiper (both 20amp) and that stupid little mini 10amp fuse, the one which i blew.... i hate the winter time!

The stupid little one is there specifically to blow if you inadvertently use the wipers when they're frozen to the screen. The idea is that i's a much simpler job to replace a stupid little fuse than it is to replace a burned out wiper motor ;)

^^^ Exactly  To JulieD you listen mmm. Help you I will, carry 10A mini blade fuses, and may the force be with you

I don't even go for the wash/wipe if it's been freezing or it's a fuse job.

Better to replace the 10A fuse than the wiper motor, go into a Skoda garage and they will give you them for free, my local one does. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Never had the rear wiper motor fuse blow, just the front ones and that's only because it was freezing one morning and I got out the car after starting it and my arse hit the wiper stalk and pop.......balls, pop to the garage, job done emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
