Turning off ice warning?

Featured Replies

Just wondered if it was possible to turn off the audible ice warning. It's quite alarming when driving.

IMO this is the most useful of all the audible warning, it's all to easy to forget how cold it is when driving a lovely warm car, i actually welcome the warning of potential black ice on the roads.

Its not possible to turn off as its considered to be a "Safety" feature and these cannot be disabled.

Why would you want to turn it off? I agree it can distract, but better that than be unaware of the danger.....

We have the temperature set in the display and are used to the same in the CR-V. We live in the Highlands so are aware of the danger of freezing conditions and drive accordingly. We find the alarm distracting, causing us to take our eyes off the road to see what the problem is.

Can it not be turned off in VAG-COM?

I'm with Andy on this one. I find the sudden BONG very distracting.

If it cannot be switched off, can the volume be turned down?

Whyy?????????????????

As I mentioned earlier, its a safety feature and cannot be disabled or altered in anyway. The volume is deliberatly loud so it can be heard over any other noise including things like having the stereo on loud. At least you have a MK2 fabia so you get a gentle bong, on the mk1 its a loud screech.

Wot he said

Am sorry but if you feel a small little bong to warn you of dropping temperatures and the chance of ice. That you may lose your control of the car in that short space of time. You shouldnt be driving.

Its there to help you!

Don't need a warning up here in the Highlands, there's always a risk of ice for half of the year! :giggle:

it's below freezing here but i've not heard any warning sounds, perhaps it's not available in level 1 trim?

I think I'm right in saying the warning only sounds if the air temperature drops from above 4C to below 4C while you are driving.

If the air temperature is already below 4C when you switch on the ignition, then only the visual warning is given. HTH.

Yep...wot he said! :D

/so does anyone know which trim levels have it

If you have the level 1 trim with a trip computer...you will have it. I think the trip computer is/was an optional extra on the level 1 trim at one point so depends if you went for the trip as an extra. Someone with a bit more knowledge than me will be able to correct me if I'm wrong.

in that case i don't have it although the level 1 trim does have a trip/mileage count for each journey.
