Merry Xmas to me...New VRS today!

Featured Replies

At 1.30pm today I will be in receipt of my first ever brand new car....VRS TDI Estate..Race blue with sunset glass and silver roof rails...Am I excited?... You bet I am!!

I'm Slightly annoyed however, that, although originally agreed I did not want the car till the new year the dealer has insisted that the car must be registered in 09 to secure the deal. Despite some considerable resistence to this the dealer would not budge, claiming that Skoda UK required the vehicle registering this year, if not then the dealer would loose money on the agreed price (£17236)....I estimate that the' trade in' value in 3 years will be some £800 less than if it had been registered in the new year....I guess this is slightly offset by the price i've paid ( a good deal I think, unless you can tell me otherwise? ) and i've managed to squeeze 50% off my first service as a sweetener.

Mine was a week 49 build and the dealer claimed that he did not originally anticipate the car being here till the new year. He claims Skoda have speeded up delivery times and put pressure on the dealers to get the cars registered this year, something about their year end figures...

Anyway, enough moaning. It'll be nice to have a shiny new car on my drive for Christmas and give me something to play with whilst the missus cooks the turkey.

Merry Christmas one and all..

please can we have pictures later? ta.

Congratulations on getting your new car emoticon-0144-nod.gif

However I think your dealer is pulling a fast one.

My dealer has said to me that they have been told by Skoda that if the car arrives at the dealer after 14th December that the customer can elect to delay delivery until January and that the VAT off deal (17.5%) and 0% finance deal will still apply.

I am sure this has more to do with extra year end bonus for the dealer. You are the second person that I have seen this happen to in the last 2 days on this forum.

The urgency to register the car doesn't surprise me, I wanted my wife's vRS to be registered later so it would be a '57 plate but it had to be registered as an '07 as a condition of the negotiated price, sales are driven by quarterly and annual targets and I can see why they are so keen to have it registered in 2009 given the depressed sales figures of late.

They used to run offers on the vRS to jack up the numbers near the end of a sales quarter. It used to be a free upgrade to 18" wheels, 2 zone climatronic and the jumbo box, there used to be cut off dates on it to encourage sales but I think its standard now.

Its still a lot of car for just over £17k so I wouldn't worry about residuals and such like, just enjoy the car

I wouldn't worry about it not being registered in 2009 or 2010 it's still a 59 plate and that's all a trader will want to know in 3 years time or whenever you want to sell it.

The dealer will be trying to make his end of year target, it's hugely important that we make it. If we don't make the target Skoda UK start asking why and starts making life difficult.

Try and work with the dealer and it will pay in the end to have a good relationship with the dealer with regards to servicing/warranty work/loan cars etc.

Enjoy your new car!

So why do used car value books, CAP, Parkers etc show a c£400 difference on a VRS 2007(57 plate) to a 2008(57 plate)?

The OP alpha8 also thinks there is a difference, £800

Congrats Alpha.

I'm in the same boat as yourself, my first brand new car. I picked up mine on Dec 7th, vRS Hatch Black Diesel and loving it. Haven't put any pics up yet, but intend to as soon as the weather perks up.

Have fun in your new ride B)

Once again with all the these internet forums people are completely misguided. We don't look at Glass' and see £11800 and say. Yes sir according to Glass' your car is worth £11,800. That would be fine if Mr Glass was happy to write the cheque for the said amount.

The fact is and always has been that Glass and CAP and just guides and Parkers is usually massively wrong as they don't update it regulary. They are just guides and we have to work off those.

If Glass' Guide says the car you want to buy is £12,800 do you just accept it and hand over £12,800? No you try and barter it down reducing the margin in the car thus reducing it's trade price. Also another thing to bear in mind that CAP works off auction prices and often overvalues things because cars fetch near retail money at auctions at the moment.

Don't take this email as rude or anything, it's not intented in that way. But I get asked that very question almost every day and I feel that consumers need to understand how these guides work so they can value their own cars correctly. Basically the car is only worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it at that time. Be it -20% of Glass or +5% of Glass Guide.

Would you pay £400 more for a car registered in Jan 06 instead of Dec 05? I could never mark a Jan 06 car £400 more than a identicle Dec 05 car, people would think I'm insane. That's why it doesn't really matter when it's registered.

Thanks for your detailed answer, not taken as rude at all emoticon-0100-smile.gif

With regards to your last point, yes I think I would be prepared slightly more for a Jan 06 car to a Dec 05 car. Perhaps I'm in a minority of one emoticon-0124-worried.gif

I'm Steve the Sales Manager at Pant Waen garage from where Alpha8 is collecting his car........Yes the No VAT and 0% offer does carry over into 2010... but just to clarify this point.....The actual wording of the message we received from Skoda Uk is as follows :

VAT campaign qualifying vehicles: orders taken up to 31 October 2009

All orders taken and customer tagged up to 31 October 2009, that land in the UK and consign by 14 December 2009, must be sold and registered by 31 December 2009 to ensure that the 15 per cent VAT rate applies. If you or the customer choose to hold vehicles in this category until 2010, either you or the customer will be required to pay the additional 2.5 per cent VAT.

The only exception to this is if the vehicle does not consign to you by 14 December 2009. In this case, Škoda UK will pay the additional 2.5 per cent VAT if the car is sold and registered after 31 December 2009. Again, however, our preference would be that the vehicle should be sold and registered in 2009 if at all possible.

Alpha8's car was consigned (electronically transferred into the retailer's stock) before 14th December, hence the first paragraph applies...

......We'd have preferred not to have registered it this month as we have blitzed the 2009 year target (as have Skoda UK Nationally) and we would like to have carried it over into 2010 :-)

Please get all the facts right before persecuting the Dealer !!

Have a merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all on Briskoda...

Guideline values are exactly what they say - guidelines, not tramlines

Enjoy your new car

As far as I know I haven't persecuted anyone and I have my facts straight.

About 4 weeks ago I enquired about a new Octavia and I was told I would get a good deal if it was done and dusted before the end of 2009. I asked why that was and sales targets were cited. Based on that information one can assume that some dealers still want to jack up their sales figures even if you don't.

Merry Christmas, everyone :giggle:

Hi Allams - you can see what I was meaning I'm sure - there seems to be too many people willing to stick the knife in to the Dealers, especially when people only have half the story......and then also fail to give credit when it's due.............

Happy Christmas....

Just to clarify....I am more than happy with the service and the deal provided by Pant Waen Skoda... No other dealer could come near them on the price I paid for my car.... Also they are nice guys to deal with, unlike a lot of the other dealers I contacted prior to them....As for the car...well, thats had it's first wash to remove the road salt and is sitting proudly on my drive...My 13 year old son has shown me how to re-tune the radio and I can't wait to give the car a proper detailing ( During the Queen's speech Christmas day possibly!! )... I must say that the quality of finish on the car is pure VW/Audi and knocks spots off other marques I considered buying prior to the Skoda.

All in all i'm very pleased with my purchase, and in the race blue with silver rails and Sunset glass I think the car looks the Dogs doo dahs!!

A big Thanks to Pant Waen Skoda & a very Merry Christmas

Steve

Thanks for taking the time to post up a full explanation of the Skoda's current VAT offer

My apologies for my earlier comment, I got it wrong and jumped to the wrong conclusion. emoticon-0120-doh.gif

In light of your post of Skoda's memo, I have contacted my dealer, Progress Bedford, and they have confirmed my new car was consigned on Mon 21st Dec but car unlikely to be delivered to dealer until next week. Car was built 14th Dec and arrived in Grimsby on Sunday 20th which I had found out previously from SUK.

So I will have the car registered in 2010 and not have to pay the extra VAT

Have a successful New Year emoticon-0100-smile.gif

I think you got a very good deal, that price matches Drive the Deal

Look after it emoticon-0105-wink.gif

If any of the dealers posting on here want to send my a pm with their telephone number, I'm ready to buy a VRS if we can agree a deal! (No finance. Straight p/x and cash) :)

Hope you enjoy your Vrs, I know I do!! Picked up my second Vrs estate last Saturday- CR Tdi, Candy White, silver roof rails, auto-dim, rain sensors, front and rear parking sensors, full size spare and I made the dealer give me front and rear mudflaps aswell!!. I also had them supply and fit a rear roof spoiler ( cost me). I traded a Race Blue Estate PD Tdi which as you can imagine I loved but I have to say the CR engine is totally different. I had Bluefin fitted and I have removed it and will be getting it updated to suit the CR but not installing it until she has a few thousand miles on the clock. In my experience the dealer will only give you what the car is worth and how quickly they can sell it. The important thing to remember is that to a dealer your pride and joy is just a lump of metal money wasting on the forecourt and the sooner he can get rid the better. They are not bothered what you think. Having said that I enjoy the 'experience' of haggling to get the best deal, hence the mudflaps- not much I know but at least I saved £40. The dealer was/is Royce Roberts in Hull. Decent people to deal with. It's just a pity about the weather!
