vacuum pipes under manifold - replacement options

Featured Replies

My Octy vRS Mk1 is starting to get a bit of a lumpy idle. I haven't had a poke around yet, but I'm assuming it's either the MAF needing a clean or a vacuum leak.

Many people seem to have trouble with the pipe under the manifold perishing, causing similar problems. I was wondering what the replacement options were? As far as i can see, the options are either replacing with standard, or replacing with Awsome GTI branded silicone versions.

Anyone out there replaced with anything other than standard? Can't see any indication that Forge, Samco etc do these pipes.

Hi,

Having read various posts about those hoses leaking, and using 'sods law' as a guide, I decided to replace mine (even tho they were ok),

assuming that they would fail eventually at the most awkward time.

Like yourself I did searches and finally bit the bullet and placed a order with Awesome

for a blue set. I fitted them in September this year, (the inlet manifold one is a B**** to do), but touch wood they seem to work,

and are the right shape which does help!!!!!.

I'm making a complete new custom set for mine. I've got all the bits and bobs to do it, but no time and now it's way too cold to attempt any fiddly jobs on the car!

I'm changing all the breather components between the crankcase vent, inlet manifold port and the intake hose. I've gone with OE valves and rigid 90degree pipe, but adding flouro hose and a catch can into the mix.

I'll do a full write up when I get it done. Better sort out my clutch first though as that's slightly more important!

It's typical really, finally got all the suspension and bodywork sorted, and now the engine bay is in need of some tlc.

Got the Awesome pipes(in black) on mine, Y shaped one a doddle to fit, the one under the inlet manifold is bit fiddly, unless you got little hands and thin fingers.

i think the best option is to fit a catch tank and do away with them pipes as it doesnt matter if you use the awesome one etc etc its still letting loads of oil vapour into the inlet side!!!!!!!!!!!

oil all over turbo and intercooler not good
