anyone else NOT having problems in the snow?

Featured Replies

Been reading on here and on other forums, of the people having problems driving in the snow, but I have had none. (apart from freezing gear linkages! lol..) The little fiat is fine, even with cheap nangkang sport II tyres , I'm having no problems. my traction control does work well though (I tried turning it off for fun, but it was too lairy ;) ) ESP is a boon, but honestly they only really come in when I provoke them, sensible driving for the conditions (i.e. changing down through gears to slow on the ice rather than braking , letting the front wheels pull you round on tickover, ect) and there's very little drama!

anyone else not suffering?

Glad to see someone else knows how to drive in bad weather.

All done on Toyos which are appaling in icy conditions

It's been great sitting at the PC in the house watching all the tards sliding around on the hill(slight slope imo) outside my house, it's amazing to see how fast people think they can go on frozen snow and still stop for the junction.

No problems here. The quatty is doing a great job of providing me with smiles and safety all in one package.

No major problems here at all.

I don't have traction control , but other than when I deliberately mash the throttle I've not had any issues pulling away or keeping going.

When the car is first started in the morning , first gear is pretty stiff but that soon warms up (unlike the heater which takes longer).

I was cursing shoddy italian build quality on Monday cause there was a really annoying rattle from the headlining by the interior light , but then the pile of ice blew off the sunroof and it stopped.

No problems for me either, its everyone else thats causing problems. I passed my test 24 years ago so have quiet a bit of experience of driving on ice and snow and the looks on some drivers faces who cannot handle it properly as you go sailing past them as they are stuck on a hill.

What snow ? None here - only a a little frost and ice.

yeah, we haven't got too much around Chester, just icy roads around the estate, not had any problems

LOL

I felt my Dads Passat slide a bit but it soon straightened itself.

My Favorits pretty good in snow, My Felly was good in snow too.

My Mk 1 Octavia 4X4 coped well today on some very icy roads. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

I was just thinking this, I haven't had any slips or slides. First couple days of the snow I was trundling about in my little Suzuki SJ though but didn't get any opportunities to have to use 4 wheel drive to get out of trouble! Or look smug B)

This my first real experience at driving in snow, and I haven't had any real issues. Slid a few times and come close to not stopping in time, but never hit anything or blocked/cut up anyone but considering the tiny ammount of preparation (ie none) I have had for winter driving, I think I've done quite well.

No problems here, I think you've just got to drive relevant to the conditions.

My Vrs is, touch wood, doing well....................... so far!

It's in desperate need for a good clean though!

"Warm" and rainy in the westcountry now so don't envisage any snow in the near future.

I have had no problems driving in the snow, only got stuck once trying to get out off the car park at work - managed to get out on the 2nd attempt.

i just dont use the car in this weather,i walk or take the bus!!

Depends on the snow and car doesn't it? As much as ability. The conditions vary so much. Dry snow and slush don't present much of a problem.

But compacted snow + freezing rain on a hill = sheet ice you can't even stand on and insufficient friction to hold a stationary car against gravity.

I haven't had problems until this morning. Went out for half an hour to drop my son at nursery (but it was closed due to mega snowfall) and while we were out the snow just really piled up and I couldn't get back into our street. We basically hit a drift right over the middle of the road. Snow was above bumper level. Snow shovel out and we got back with a bit of help from the neighbours.

No problems for me in my old rear wheel drive Ford. It has behaved faultlesly, the heated seats have been good and it's an advantage not having power steering, as when the steering goes light, I know that I am on a slippery bit. It's a shame that our snow is now disappearing.

My journey home today was much trickier - very heavy snow with flakes like feathers meant that visibilty was really poor and it was sticking so there was only one lane driveable on the dual carriageways.

No major problems with traction though until I got to my driveway. The slabs were very slippy and I had to back off it and sweep and grit it before I could park. WIth just the handbrake it was sliding!

I'm Canadian, so no :)

And even with a heavy, FWD, big engined car that's on its arse with wide tyres!

Nope had no problems at all. Only one corner this morning saw the car have a hint of understeer on some black ice, but it's a slow tight corner anyway so my lack of speed easily allowed me to get round. The lanes I need to use to get to work have had snow, which has compacted, then partially melted, frozen, had more snow/rain on which has frozen resulting in condtions you can barely stand and walk on. But driving as others have said allows no problems at all to speak of.

One of the first driving lessons my dad gave me saw it snowing on the roads we were on. Even swmbo has done very well IMO considering that she doesn't like driving on ice/snow. But some words of wisdom and advice and she's doing nicely....
