V-Power

Featured Replies

Has anyone noticed a difference with using a shell vpower fuel? I know i have with petrol the 99 oct rating means better response and a little more grunt but my dads diesel he says it made no difference if anything it made it worse in terms of consumption. anyone got any reviews?:)

Been discussed lots before, but my tank was well into the red the other day and the only petrol station for miles was out of regular diesel so was stuck with v-power

Made seemingly no difference to the drive or fuel consumption but cost me an extra fiver than normal

Wish i'd just lobbed a fiver in and stopped in at the next station i passed

I noticed a difference, to my wallet  Regular diesel is fine.

i use normal shell and vpower and tbh i stick to normal diesel due to cant tell the difference and its cheaper emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Agree, I cannot notice a difference except that I seem to get fewer mpg when on V-Power Diesel in comparison to 'normal' diesel. I might continue to fill the odd tank with it now and then for its cleaning properties.

If anything, i think i get more miles, and the engine seems smoother with regular. I still use v power though, cause in my mind i think its doing better for the engine ?? lol

Makes no difference and is no better for your engine than standard Derv.

I never use it.

I have a W reg 1.4 16v (100bhp) Fabia Elegance and when I first bought mine second hand, it obviously ran okay(or else I wouldn't have bought it!)

After a few fills of unleaded mostly from Esso and some from Total, my car began running horrifically. It needed to be revved high to get it moving anywhere in 1st gear, it rattled when the engine was under stress (e.g hard acceleration or hill climbs), choked and chugged (alot!) so in short, the drive was honestly terrible.

After switching to Shell 99 RON, I can 100% definitely say that there is a considerable, significant difference.

The car began running smoother within about 10 miles, the rattling died down and it made less of a worrying noise on the motorway. After a few fill cycles, my engine now accelerates significantly easier and quicker, picking up from lower revs and the rattling (that I now know to have been Pinking) has now completely gone. It doesn't choke or chugg at all any more and it's a lot happier on the motorway than before.

Oh, and my mpg has shot up from average 28.2 to 34.5 around town as a result..... and I haven't changed my driving style either......

End result - from my experience, definitely don't skimp on fuel with this engine, it'll thank you immediately!!!!

p.s. anyone know why I have "warn status" and an empty bar against my name????

Shell V-power petrol will make a small difference to the running of a car due to its higher octane rating, but the V-power Diesel I cant see being much different to regular diesel. Other than maybe having some extra cleaners in the fuel, for the difference in price to normal Derv, id spend the money on a decent diesel additive and add that, and that would only be if i thought i had a problem with the fuel system to begin with. Ive run on regualr diesel from supermarkets and well known brands and have had no difference in running of the car and have had the same milage of over 400+ miles to a tank. :)

Tried it once by mistake when I went round a car hogging the back pump at the petrol station only to find that the pump I was heading for didn't have 'normal' diesel, just v-power. It's probably unfair to reach a conclusion based on one tank of fuel, but my economy was worse using v-power!
