passenger door window

Featured Replies

not sure what may be happening, today went to close the passenger window and it made a few noises and didn't seem to want to close. It did eventually i am guessing something may be causing the mechanism to stick?

If i get the door card off is the window reachable or does more need to be done to see the mechanism?

All my regulators have broken in the past and the drivers one twice! The same happened every time and I would advise against opening that window again until you get it sorted. Each time mine have gone there is quite a loud clunk as the window goes back up. Then the next time it is used the glass just drops to the bottom and it won't come back up again. Skoda decided to use a nylon pulley which is worn out quite easily by the wire of the mechanism and the cable basically falls off the pulley and tangles around it.

It isn't too hard to get at but is a bit fiddly if you have big hands. As mine is an old octy 1 it has the plastic membrane behind the door card rather than a carrier assembly as the newer octys have. Mine have all been replaced with Skoda parts so I'm unsure of the differences with a Golf mechanism. I was told that VW changed the regulators in the Golf to solve this problem but I don't know if the new type is interchangable with the old style. I can't imagine they would have redesigned the door for the sake of a different regulator though.

Can't remember off hand but I think the Dealer will want about £120 for the job.

The link you posted is for cars with the carrier assembly which isn't like mine. Mines a bit old for that and has plastic membranes instead.

Thanks, turning out to be an expensive few weeks, new tyres, windscreen wipers, and now the door.

Such is life.
