Yes it'll look fancy, but I still fail to see a point!

............but I still fail to see a point!

You will if you watch sport on it

Which I don't. So pointless then!

The day will come when you are in a pub and everyone is watching it. Then someone will offer you free glasses and the rest will be history. I think they should give you free glasses as a safety device, because it does your nut in if you see the 3D picture without them.

I've watched 3D films (and paid the privilege for it...) and I've not seen what benefit there was!

no good to me,as i lost a eye when when i was ten, bow&arrow, thanks to my twin brother, but i still talk to him!!

Random! :smirk:

Like I have said, wait till you see Sport in 3D. Although I accept you may not be into Sport anyway.

It's always good to see a man with an open mind emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

:)

I'll watch a bit of motorsport, but football is for gays.

Oooh I hadn’t thought of motorsport. I bet that will make your eyes bleed or you will probably throw up with motion sickness. It would be brilliant watching the cars coming at you with the camera at the end of the Hanger Straight though :)

I'll only be impresed if it can be as good as "jaws 3D" from the 80's :giggle:

Have to say, seen it, played with it, don't rate it as yet. (Assuming we are talking about the no glasses versions)

Serious eye strain issues if you spend too long looking at it

I'm sure by next year many of the issues will addressed, but it will be interesting to see if they can resolve the strain one.

All my posts refer to the 'circular polarising glasses' version.

Ahh my bad, yeah they look pretty impressive, but even with those, the eyes don't really seem to like long hours of exposure.

It’s the only really dislike I have of the technology so far. I find glasses give me a pain in the nose after a while. :(

Have you seen this 3d malarky, great little video.

Clever use of technology and it looks very good indeed! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

After seeing Avatar in 3D I'm quite interested in 3D TV :D

i'd be interested to come back to this thread in a couple of years to see how things have progressed relative to whats being talked about here. i'll admit to being fairly cynical about the whole 3D thing, i've seen several movies in 3D and i'm still of the opinion that it doesn't bring anything to my viewing experience other than having to pay a premium to wear a silly pair of glasses. i saw Up in 2 and 3D (2D first) and 10 mins into the 3D version i was bored of the experience and ready for the next cinema fashion, cue Avatar which i haven't seen yet but will this week and i promise to go in with an open mind :D .

I'm very happy with the whole HD/Blu-ray experience and struggle to watch anything in SD now but i was always excited about the prospect of HD whereas 3D hasn't come close to matching that excitement, yet.

i am very happy to be proved wrong though  and some of the technologies Amanda has mention could be exciting, but do the general public really want it or is it a minority of techies that want it? i can't help thinking that Joe Bloggs down the Nags Head just wants to watch his game in peace with a pint and not have to duck his head (and possibly spill aforementioned pint!) every time Giggsy sends one into the box.

another point to remember as usual when talking about any new technology is cost, how much is a commercially available 3D TV going to set you back when they eventually come to the market?? i suspect several thousand and this is just after everyone has caught up with HDTV/Blu-ray technology now that the prices have become more affordable.

3D for now has much to prove to me personally, maybe Avatar will and like i said i go in with an open mind (and a free ticket!) and may be swayed one way or the other, but as with Transformers, fantastic visuals can't hide a terrible film. you can't polish a turd as they say ;)

Pretty much my opinion, also... it brings nothing to the viewing experience with what I've seen so far!

i saw Up in 2 and 3D (2D first) and 10 mins into the 3D version i was bored of the experience,

I would kind of agree with that.

Up wasn't a great 3D film. I was astounded by the snow flakes at the beginning, but after the first couple of minutes, it turned into a 2D film, made in 3D.

I really want to see Avatar in 3D, as i've read it was always meant to be a 3D film, so i'd hope it would make better use of the medium.

3D is just like HD, you have to plan from the start to have it in 3D/HD. Top gear is great in HD, its stunning to look at, and truely enhances the program, something like the news, i just sit there and realise how spotty all the news readers are, HD doesn't actually make the news any better. Im think 3D is the same.

Im sure 3D will take more time to establish itself, as its a whole new way of thinking about making content, but once all the directors have their head around it, im sure it will litterally add a whole new dimension to film making.

Then once it becomes more main stream, they'll find ways of making screens that dont require the silly glasses, or we'll be able to get better glasses.

I reckon the timing is a bit to soon after the HD move. But SKY and several other Broadcasters really want 3D for the World cup, hence the big push to get it rolling asap. I am pretty sure pubs will be the first adopters.

I think it might be one of those things that men will see down the pub and go back slightly ‘happy’ to their wives and say “we need 3D!â€. The wives will then go mental, there will be a huge row and the husband will go off in a strop and sulk. A few years later the husband will buy a 3D telly in a Christmas sale, only to find that 4D with sensuround sound has been developed and is currently showing football from the players point of view, down at his local……….Doh!

i suspect you've hit the nail on the head on both points. i would be interested to see what the Canadian religion of ice hockey would look like in the 3D tech you mentioned, catch a game during the forthcoming winter olympics and see what you think

Well boxing does look terrific in 3D so adding more men, all carrying weapons and a small black missile, should be tremendous entertainment in 3D.
