My Poor Car !

Featured Replies

As per Topic....

My poor Car has been totally abused for almost 5 Hrs Today ... & Why you Ask ???...

Trying to get blinkin home in the Snow ... :(

Every way we turned we had to do battle with other cars & the elements, Lots of clutch work, Clutch Abuse . Wheelspin, Sideways action, Driving in too lower gear for the road speed just to keep moving without spinning, I just kept thinking about my new Dmf & how im going to knacker it, The Quaiffe Diff has been working overtime & my Cupra splitter has been doubling up as a snow plough :D..

People though are so silly in the snow, Blocking junctions, Stopping below hill's & then tooting behind people that are spinning & stuck, Instead of getting out & helping.., if they can't get anywhere, Nor can anybody else, Total chaos rains in the UK , when other countries carry on relatively well ......

Anybody else have a mamoth task/journey to get home today ???

Must say the Vrs Estate is absolutely worse than useless on the White Stuff, Thought about entering it into the Dancing on Ice show, But would be embaressed at it's Scores :D

Definately a Bambi :D

Imagine peeling the Road Kill off your Tyre's everytime you got home :D...

Must agree though, it would help keep people moving, During the 5hr i never saw one of those rare/oddity's, You know, bright Yellow, Flashing lights & throws rocks at you as you pass by ...........

motorway maitinence!? lmao :p I think it would be soooo much easier if you were taught to drive in snow and ice when learning and forced to take pass pluss or something and have a mini test evry 10 years or so.... when i learnt to drive i learnt mostley in the snow last year so i got alot of experience but not evryone knows how to drive in snow and ice.... plus as you said only a few motorists will help someone stuck in snow! If people knew how to drive in heese conditions surley it would be less mad this weather just look at evrywhere in europe that has snow they dont panic half as much! :D

I think the safest thing to say about the snow is that it doesnt matter how experienced you are or how many times you've driven on snow you will never be prepared as snow is so unpredictable. Of course the best thing to do is heir caution however this does not mean travel at 15mph when there is quite clearly no surface snow!

I agree that adverse weather conditions should be included as an element in driving tests although I realise the difficulty the poses as its not always snowing or raining etc. The best way around it I think then is to include a compulsory theory type element based on weather conditions and basic vehicle checks which can prevent silly breakdowns etc.

Just my opinion

Definately agree on the Education side of motoring, Re Snow, Control & many others, Fore warned is Fore Armed Etc, as said, Im sure it would keep things moving a little better & people would not be half as surprised when they hit the brakes & wonder why they are gliding sideways towards another vehicle .....

your right there i know itsdifficult but i do think its daft that they cancel tests in adverse conditions when its not too bad sometimes. I think the art of starting in seccond should be taught and theory about weather driving is a great idea!

And most importantly engine braking should be taught i got taught it when i did my bike test and racing training but most people dont know what it is and how to use it and most importatly why its the best thing ever in snow!

ABS plus snow = trouble

I have tried to tell several people I have got out to help that they need to lower the revs and use second. On every occasion they have looked at me like I am mad and told me you can't start a car in second and that the way to cope with wheels spinning in snow is to rev harder. :wonder:

We've had snow every day now since the 17th of December so people are getting lots of practice.

i love that brittish thing motorists do when they are told something, I KNOW IM CORRECT YOU CANT START A CAR OFF IN SECCOND! daft init :giggle:

Its the Great British habbit of saying Yes, oh, really, I never knew that and then dismissing the thought!

I inadvertantely moved off in fourth today so second is a doddle.

ive done that i wondered what the hell was going on (bearing in mind that i was on my bike this morn and it decided to blizard on my way to work!!) :D

Engine breaking doesn't need teaching - just look at the number of people that have broken turbos on here!

Engine braking is a different matter....:)

Sorry for being a pedant!

its ok haha i know i cant spell to save my life:P

Yep I feel your pain! Trying to get out my street this morning in Sheffield at 5am - was about minus 4 and my car just slid straight into a parked van and badly dented my front bumper, light surround and the front side panel :'( . Total BEAST! I was only doing about 10mph, I must be looking in the ball park of at least £250 to get it repaired.

Modern winter tyres yes  Studded tyres? No thanks - they tear up the roads, and the roads in this country are bad enough as it is.

You are supposedly taught it - it was in my theory test anyway (last summer). I'm amazed the amount of people that just drive normally on ice and are surprised when their wheels lock when braking and skid, or who try to pull away stupidly fast and just spin their wheels...

Oh, and Pass Plus is supposed to become a compulsory part of your learning over the next two years - you won't be able to sit the test until you've completed a Pass Plus course (according to my ADI - they weren't happy as if you're teaching someone in summer, you'd have to be out at about 11pm to cover the driving in the dark section).

FOURTH?? :o Now that's impressive

yp you can move off in any gear even 6th or 5th lmao, if you give it a load of reves and let the clutch in the car will slowly stutter off:P

Despite my (not wanting to sound big headed) good snow driving skills, I still managed to bump into a corner at the bottom of a hill yesterday.

Bent the wishbone and poped the bottom ball joint out!!

Managed to drive it home (not knowing about the ball joint), and rode my push bike to the next town to APD and get a wishbone.

Changed it within about 4 hours of doing it, and that includes 30min each way to town.
