MIFI to get WIFI hotspot in your car

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Let me wish you all a happy new year 2010 !

I wanted to share a bit of something that could be useful to people interested in getting their car "connected".

I bought a MIFI device from 3.

The interest in such a device is that you can get 3G connectivity (in pay as you go if you want) but shared through WIFI. Once you inserted the SIM card and configured the device, you get a wifi hotspot to share your 3G connection.

I see a real interest as the device can be powered by mini-USB (it can obviously run on battery) and then you can share one 3G access to different devices in the car. It's small enough to be kept in a pocket and used with other types of portable WIFI capable devices. I got that for an ipod touch.

More info on the 3 website:

http://www.three.co.uk/Mobile_Broadband/MiFi_plus_iPod_bundle

and:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiFi

It might be useful for some, useless for others :-) Just sharing !

As it sounds, size of the next generation MIFI is going to be smaller and smaller...

HTH.

Boris

I use and fit the Dension Wi-Drive to achieve the same thing, along with wireless iPod and USB synchronisation for files and music. The 3 devices are useful though, I wonder when they'll make it to other networks?

i'm certain they will. my gripe is that 3g internet access on my 3 mobile is a bit unreliabale, how does the mifi compare?

The new HTC HD2 can act as a router via wifi or Bluetooth I believe.emoticon-0148-yes.gif
