TSi engine in the FL vRS - differences and tuning options

Featured Replies

Looking at the options for our forthcoming facelift vRS...

Having done some searching and reading, as I understand it the new engine has;

Timing chain as opposed to belt

A new slightly bigger turbo? (IHI made)

Engine code CCZA

Can anyone add anything to this?

Found the wikipedia link -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_petrol_engines#2.0_TSI.2FTFSI_132-155kW

...but this makes ref to the old K03 turbo so I'm a bit confused!

Can anyone give a definative spec of the new engine, what has changed, what other VAG cars it is found in in the same config, and what differneces there are compared to the TSI in the mk6 Golf GTi etc!

I'm going to be looking at remaps fairly soon aftrer the new car has a few miles under its belt so am also interested to know what the options are at the moment - supplier/cost/quoted power & torqu!

Will keep this first post updated if it becomes a useful thread! :)

I have just had a rolling road remap at AMD in Essex. using their map as oppossed to Revo. £500.00

Original run standard showed 198.4 Bhp @ 5835rpm and 192.7lb ft torque

Run 2 after map delivered 253.7 Bhp@ 5835rpm and 279.1lb ft torque

Run 3 After fettling 264,2Bhp@ 5835rpm and 277 Ib ft torque

I was well pleased with the figures especially as everything else is standard including air filter and running 95 ron fuel.

The car goes like a dream so much torque, just waiting for a dry day to really put the power down.

I have since started using 98 ron fuel and average consumption is the same as it was standard which is a blow as I was expecting economy to

improve at least slightly.

AMd seemed very professional outfit only critisism is they estimated 3 hours and took 5, they do have a waiting area with comfy chairs, magazines, TV (not working) and wireless broadband access.

I found lack of interest on this forum for TSI engine at moment and went onto scirrocco forum

post up your dyno plot for a look then.

ive used AMDs rollers on 3 occasions now and each time have made awesome figures, which i now now to be rubbish as the data entered in the system has been incorrect for the day etc. meaning the computer wil calculate all the info wrong. i made 287hp on their rollers @stage 2+, shark_90s stage 2 car made 260.1 on JKMs rollers and his was quicker than mine.

I drove shauns vRS which had his AMD stage 2 map on and i reckon mine when i had bluefin on was alot stronger low down the rev range, but not at the top of the RPM range

Do AMD in Essex have much to do with the same that are/were in Biceester? I seem to recall John (Thorney Motorsport) Thorn was associated with them??

As the stock run figure seems pretty realistic im assuming the others should be about right and also fit in with other results on Scirrocco forums revo claims etc....

The car drives great and im happy and would be happy to use them again!

Not any more, the current AmD is pretty much a continuation of the name only.

so true. before and after readins are what matters, although your before and after figures are massive in comparison to the REVO TSI map that JKM did. they made stock figures and only gained around 35hp. dyno operators can make to dynos read high very easily.

im getting tempted to trade mine in and pick up a facelift TSI but, TBH i want a k04 turbo as an option, and since the cupra and golf are two small i think im stuck.

I will post map some time but only have encapsulated hard copy and no flat bed scanner.

''95ron

95ron mode is a huge improvement over standard software, it is however tuned to suit lower quality fuel and is ideal to use in warmer climatic conditions. Power 255bhp@5400rpm, torque 301 lbft@3000rpm.

98ron

The optimum setting to use in good climatic conditions with 98ron or better fuel, with huge increases in both power and torque over standard and the 95ron performance mode. Power 266bhp @ 5700rpm, torque 313 lbft @ 3000rpm.

100ron

To be used when 100ron or better fuel is being run or with 98ron fuel in very good operating conditions. Power 275bhp @ 5700rpm, torque 323 lbft @ 3100rpm''

My figures have sacrificed torque for Bhp? as this figure is down on JKM and Revo figure...... Tho must say 277 Ib ft feels ample.

Could JKM be wrong?

I have spent a considerable sum of money tuning my 2.0 TFSi engine. I know yours is the newer TSi but the power gains etc are comparable.

REVO make the claim that on a 2.0 TFSI the power goes from Stock 197bhp to 255bhp with just a remap. Show me a 2.0TFSi anywhere in the world that has achieved that figure on a proper Dyno (say for example JKM or Surrey RR) I bet you can't find one anywhere.

No doubt REVO would be able to produce some data to show that a car did indeed achieve their quoted figure. But in reality you will not get that sort of power increase with just a remap.

You will get somewhere around 35-40bhp maximum.

You will however get the Torque (or thereabouts)

I have seen hundreds of cars go on RR with many different types of Maps. None have ever reached the stated power claim with just a remap alone.

For example when i had mine on just a Stage 1 Map nothing else ( i was also using 100 octane fuel as lived in germany at the time and the car was mapped to take this into account) i made 237.3bhp and 278lb/ft. That was with REVO who quote 255BHP and 285lb/ft

Don't get me wrong im not slagging your car/map off. As long as you are happy with it that is all that matters. What i will say though is go to a RR which people on this and other forums deem to be accurate (so the likes of JKM, Surrey RR etc) and you will then get a truer figure of what the car has.

But the main thing is as long as your happy with the car numbers are only for pub talk.

Apart from mine, perhaps? 262.1bhp and 260.2bhp on two different dynos (both DD) on a 260bhp stated map is pretty consistent ;)

Yup but you don't just have a map you have other hardware to compliment the map :p which is my point :moon:

think you guys have your wires crossed there.

from what i get is carl is saying alot of tuners over exagerate their stage 1 remaps. ie revo claiming 255hp for a standard TFSI with no mods. which is a ridiculous claim as that is stage 2 output with all the supporting mods. what they actually get is circa 240Hp. from what i gather REVO stated and actual results for stage 2 are accurate.

bens car is a stage 2 car with all the required supporting mods and is getting exactly the stated performance. claimed 260hp actually it gets 260hp.

Exactly what I was trying to say :)

I have heard that the turbo on the TSI is slightly smaller than the FSI one and runs out of breath a little sooner than the FSI KO3 :wonder:

had this conversation on this with the administator on the mk5 forum. he has been advised its the same turbo. hes goiing stage 1 then straight to k04 conversion though, so should be interesting

the TSI has IHI Turbo. I have a Octavia vRS with TSI engine and DSG gearbox. I have Revo stage 2, Forge Twintake and Blueflame 3" Turboback (100cell cat). The results: 305bhp, 500Nm

thats really impressive, I have read elsewhere on here that the IHI is bigger and/or lends itself to tuning more effectively - any info?

and what the hell is a forge twintake? FMIC?

Forge Twintake is a Cold Air induction kit similar to EVOMS etc but has two filters rather than 1

I looked at my turbo and it looks smaller than the K03 from Garrett.

o/t I know but £376 for what is basically an airfilter!

a know its a crude way of looking at it but would that generally mean quicker spool but less max boost?
