If it is a 110 engine it's not a PD.

It could be a PD 105, or a TDI 110. On a 2005 plate, assuming it's a MK II, then it will be a PD105.

If it is a MK I, then there are warm starting issues with the fuel pump on the older cars, which can be solved by a diesel injection specialist.

If the MK II, PD105, then it could be the coolant temperature sensor failing. This will tell the car it is cold when it's hot, inject the wrong amount of fuel and starting will be impaired.

Sorry for the confusion it is the Mk II PD 105. Thanks for the reply would a diagnostic read out find the problem

I think the fault is the G40 sensor. It's also known as the crankshaft position sensor.

A check with vag-com or VAS (at the dealer) shoul confirm my suposition.

For my car the sensor costs ~ 40 pouns.

You shoul change it because in time the problem gets more and more agravating.

No worries, but obviously easier to diagnose if you know the car you're dealing with.

A VCDA (VAG-COM) or dealer scan should give you some information and certainly give some idea of what might be at fault.

Obviously it's not certain to show up, but probably worth doing if you can find a member in your area qith VCDS.
