Thought I would post to introduce myself after having a good read around the site.

I am picking my Octavia 4x4 hatch up on Saturday morning! Can't wait! 2002 in dark blue, 6000 miles and from a main dealer, used by their business manager.

Yeah seen everything, all in order. The hatch was imported for a short time although the estate is far more common apparently!

Thats good. The reason I mentioned the log book was, many high value second hand skoda cars are passed to cealers by Skoda UK after being used as hire cars, rather than trade in cars. I have also read about dealers being les than honest about their past, and someone was sold a car that had been used by the dealers business manager...........and turned out to be ex-hire.

how does the 150bhp 4x4 compare 0-60 with the 1.6 2 wheel drive? Does the 4wd soak up much of the extra power?

Welcome to Briskoda from a fellow 4X4 (Estate) owner. At 6000 miles your new car should be nicely run in and ready for remapping, just as mine was. :D

I seem the recall it's about 9.3 seconds 0-60 for a stock 4x4..... there is virtually no transmission loss till the rear drive is enaged, at which point a FWD would be spinning it's wheels anyway, one of the great things about the haldex!

Average.... over a 108mile journey, from centre of Birmingham to M5 to M6 to M62, M60 and M61...

what you only managed to do 43.1 mph. God that is slow.

I shouldn't worry too much about this, I've had my ex Skoda UK 4x4 for 9 months now and it has never skipped a beat (touch wood). They're more pool cars than hire cars and if you believe the dealer, assigned to one person only. I know employees at both Ford and Peugeot can buy a new car cheap then sell it back after nine months, not really 'hire cars'.

I wouldn't worry too much about buying an ex-hire car. I brought a 1.8 Focus direct from Hertz 4 years ago and it was

Dealers have a lot of 03 plate stuff in that start AJ,AE,AD etc. they are nearly all VAG Eurofleet stock although some dealers are claiming they are "Managers" cars.

I do know of one bad experience of buying ex-rental which happened recently. A friend at work decided to buy a Mondeo TDCi from Hertz. It had only done 4.5k but it smoked like a train and ran very erratically. Phoned them the next day and they got an identical spec car ready within a few days to swap over.
