Mixing and matching tyres

Featured Replies

Is this advisable?

1 type on the front and another type on the back?

Or shouldn't I risk it...

It depends on what you mean by different type. You may mix different manufactures of tyres front and rear if they are all summer or winter for 2WD cars. Tyre firms do advise it is best to replace all 4 if you are changing to winter tyres, however there have been many discussions that some people put winter tyres only on the driven wheels in winter. Of course for 4WD cars you must change all 4 due to the difference in diameters (different tread levels) that may effect the centre diff.

Legally you must not have different constructions of tyre on the same axel (Radial and Cross-ply), however cross-plys for normal road cars have not been seen since the 70's or 80's. They are still used in Motorsport and I think in van/truck & Caravan tyres.

I'll have Pirelli P Zero Rossos at one end but the cost to replace them at the other end is very high.

I was thinking of just fitting P zero Neros or something similar

Thanks mate :)

I like to keep all tyres the same to retain predictable handling TBH :)

Should be fine

Do a search before posting, "What tyres do I get?" It will save the kittens!
