ASR, ABS and Red ((!)) Warning Lights

Featured Replies

It's iced up and cold in London today. When I was driving over a speed bump, I applied the brakes and the ASR, ABS and Red ((!)) warning Lights (with a loud beep) came on and stayed on. I restarted the car, the ASR and ABS lights are off, but now the red ((!)) is on.

Is it the battery problem, or is it something else?

Cheers

the red (!) Light is the handbrake warning light which means it could be in a little bit or the switch is stuck.

It's also the brake fluid level warning light!

If it's the handbrake you should hear a constant 'bonging' when moving!

Don't rule out road crud on the ABS rotors.

My ABS/ASR lights were on the other week and I needed a new O/S rear ABS sensor and that has sorted the issue.

All lights have gone now. I think it is the battery issue. I need a new one anyway and the cold doesn't help.

Thanks for the advice.

Safe driving!

This happed to me at the begining of the week, i just turned the ignition off and they all went off, i think the cold weather has a lot to do with it.

its off when the wheels are spinning and youre not moving, confuses the ECU

This happened to mine too, as in all the lights went off, but then when most needed the ABS cut out again and the lights came back on. I would get the fault code read if I was you as if your ABS conks out again as it did with me it can land you in a very dangerous situation, like sliding out of an icy side road into the middle of a very busy main road  !

whatever did we do before abs eh? this statement is daft,my car has no abs at all,or traction controll or any of the other safety features and i manage just fine, stupid nanny state driving aids are for folk who can't drive

Before ABS we did something known as "cadence braking" where you pumped the brake pedal very hard and fast to prevent the wheels locking up.

As for your comment re: nanny state drivers...............I agree with you 100%.

Bob.

Yes many of my previous cars didn't have anti lock brakes or traction control, but if you are expecting the abs to work and at the drop of a hat it doesn't when you apply the brakes, then that in my eyes is a problem. All I was trying to do was offer advice based on my personal experience.
