FMIC

Featured Replies

Just been looking at some threads on here about ebay fmics, and the general opinion seems to be STAY AWAY unless you have access to modify it somehow.

Now i've come accross this intercooler http://www.eurosportacc.com/intercooler_kits_vw_18T_20T.htm It looks the same as the ABD one. Any thoughts as to weather it will fit.

Cheers peeps

Looks quite a nice piece of kit and well made, the Stat's look good.

It is very much like the ABD ones where it crosses over underneath the car back to route to standard OEM alloy pipe and intake hose. Yes it should fit the Octy as that is the same set up as the Golf 1.8T in terms of the intercooler routing.

May want to check shipping costs as that can jack up the price a bit, but at that price for the kit, it is good.

Some folks have done the DIY EBay route with succes but you do need to source a number of parts other than the Ebay kit , and be prepared to bend piping.

If you you don't go DIY and don't want the hassle this is a good route to take IMO.

Here is a few links to folks doing the DIY route to show you what is needed.

The kit In the link looks nice. Like Bowders has said the shipping might take the price up a bit.

The ebay intercooler that I used Is very similar to the one In the kit. There was no modifiying to the intercooler at all. The only modifying when fitting of the DIY kit Is with the pipe kit, which needed some pipes cutting down to size & the ends of all the pipes need beading, but there weren't any pipes that needed bending.

Be careful with the return pipe on the one in the link, as whilst it looks like the ABD Racing one, the ABD one has a much tighter bend on the return pipe, this lets you get it up behind the radiator without it hanging low enough under the engine to scrape the ground.

Also have a word with Martinzuk, as he did a brilliant self fit one that worked out a fraction of the price of the one in the link.
