Xenon lighting help please!

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Got a quick question with my headlights. This is on my 2008 Octavia vRS.

How can I tell if I have Xenons in there? The lights have the projectors in them - this would suggest that they are Xanon's but do I need to check?

Basically, I am wanting to know what my options are for the D1S lights - are some better than others? Can anyone point me towards the best ones to get? Do I need to make sure I get the right colour temperature (6800??)

Cheers,

Andy

It should be fairly obvious, do you have washers? Do the lights "fade in"? Is the light white?

Do you have a manual level adjuster near the headlamp switch? If not, you have xenons!

I forgot about that one!

There aren't any brighter D1S bulbs, just differernt colour temp.

Factory colour temp is 4300K. This will give the most lumens for a xenon bulb. Some people prefer a blue tinge to the colour & opt for a 6000K upgrade. However, this will result in a decrease of lumens.

Ahh the one thing I know I dont have is headlamp adjustment! And they are very white - might consider trying a friends 6000's to see what they are like but basically I want the best light possible so might stick with these :)

Thanks guys!

BTW Factory Xenons, Will use D2S capsulesemoticon-0105-wink.gif

4300k will give you the most light on the ground, If you really want a bluer light try a max temp of 5000k.

The manual says I have D1S if I have Xenons - will that not be the case?

Might try a 5000 but these are pretty good :)

D1S bulbs are basically D2S bulbs with a separate ignitor on the end. ;)

Ah bugger - it does have the headlight adjuster - for some reason I didn't think it did (only had it a few days).

Ah well, can anyone suggest the best after-market kit I need to get in order to put Xenon's on there please? It does have the projectors in the headlights which is why I thought they already were Xenon.

Wouldn't want to replace a pair or those!

Well, they aren't Xenons as it turns out :(

Going to have to look for an aftermarket kit 'cos not to keen to spend hundreds to get the Skoda lights!

Thanks - I have mailed them now!

H7 4300k super duper CAN safe ones are what you'll need!

Assuming the bulbs are H7's of course, Ive been wrong once on this threademoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Hehe well I shall have to revert back to the manual but I do recall seeing something like that :D

You have projectors so are allowed after market HIDs

TBH, a pet hate of mine is when you see boy racers with 55w HID's in their corsa and blinding everyone - not sure i would bother otherwise! :)

But they're fitted in reflector units, projectors are fine, you shouldn't get blinded if they're fitted properly, in projectors :)

Sorry but both of these comment's are incorrect, annoys me to read this, working in the industry I am in, just a shame that so many people can get away with it and think sit's acceptable...........

What industry are you in? And why is that incorrect?

Sorry, but the issue is with people fitting them in standard reflector housing. This causes beam scattering and dazzles oncoming drivers.

When fitted to projector lenses, this issue is gone. Ok, you've still got the technicalities of washer systems and auto-levelling, but the big problem with after-market kits is the fitment to reflector housings.
