Xenon lighting help please!

Featured Replies

With Baker21 working for a well known automotive lighting company, he knows what he's talking about.

Halogen projectors are designed to work with halogen bulbs. Xenon projectors are designed to work with xenon bulbs.

Maybe I got Xenon projectors but they were too lazy to put the bulbs in? ;)

Oh, and if I put a set in and they were not a good light, i.e dazzling etc, then I would take them back out again :)

I shouldn't really have replied to this thread as it's a pet hate of mine and working in the industry means we spend many design hours getting things past legal requirements only for people to fit what they like to blind oncoming traffic etc, you can ofcourse do what you want to your car and that applies to me 'lowering' it, etc so maybe this is pot calling kettle black but it does annoy me what we have to go through to get a legal lamp designed and built............

What industry are you in? And why is that incorrect?

I work for a Prestigious Lighting Manufacturer in the UK and am currently working on the Aston Martin One-77 where I have designed and just building the entire suite of lamps for the car...........

Sorry, but the issue is with people fitting them in standard reflector housing. This causes beam scattering and dazzles oncoming drivers.

When fitted to projector lenses, this issue is gone. Ok, you've still got the technicalities of washer systems and auto-levelling, but the big problem with after-market kits is the fitment to reflector housings.

Sorry mate but your wrong as stated by Jon TDI the Xenon light source in a Halogen Projector will just send the light everywhere, sure it may be brighter but it's not designed to direct the light into the correct legal areas so for me it's a no, no...........

You can do as you like mate, I will get back in my box now and keep stum.............. :D

So many people do this you may as well be another one..........

You also need headlamp washers and self levelling lights, to be (cough cough) LEGAL of course.

I'm keeping out of this :S

For the record......"Please dont fit an aftermarket HID kit "

For all those not wishing me to add a HID kit, please send paypal payments to the value of £800 for Xenon headlights please ;)

I tried and blinded people on dark country roads so removed them and got a refund.

This was behind projectors and on the basis of feedback from others saying it's all ok and some temptation.

As it is I now run +50% bulbs which have been good, especially with the more yellow light reflecting much less in snow.

You have projectors so are allowed after market HIDs

No it doesnt. They're not approved for UK road use, and several members have had the police and MOT make them remove them.

And by the same token, I also have friends who have been driving round with them in for 18+months and with no problem and have flown through the MOT.
