Had the chance over the weekend to play with some studio lighting I bought.

Wow, I know people say studio work can be fun with the lighting, but I underestimated just how awesome fun it really is. I can see myself getting into this seriously although need to start building a collection of light modifiers, desperately need some honeycomb / snoots for those hair highlights. Note to self: black hair and black background can be tricky to make one stand out!

I did a bit of PP here, mainly making the BG completely black. This was taken in a small lounge and a low white ceiling still reflects light more than I can control. Only used the single strobe. With only softboxes, I don't think I could have obtained a controlled hair highlight.

Quite happy for a first effort. But I'm already addicted!

Here are a few shots:

Anyone else playing around with strobes? B)

I'm just starting to play with hotshoe flashes off-camera. The Strobist way. Not quite 'studio equipment' but I'm having a lot of fun with just the one light. Need to find another as I'm getting the same issue as you and not always enough power to reflect a rim light.
