Garmin Sat Nav question....

Featured Replies

Hi ppl,

No sure if this has been asked b4 but will give it a go and see what feedback I get.

Ive got a garmin sat nav and hate the way the lead hangs all over the dash when its connected - mounted to the windscreen. I was wondering can that lead be sumhow connected to the battery directly and then have that lead come through the wee narrow air vent on the driverside on the dash and connected to the sat nav?? Is it able to be switched off automatically when the car is turned off aswell etc ( the same way the cigarette lighter works).

Any feedback wud be gr8.

Many Thanks

Steven

yh you can have it hardwired into your car, as i know it its £39 from halfords and they will fit it all in for you! im prety sure they fit it in even if it hasent be purchased from halfords! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Put a cigarette lighter socket on the end of a short wire, and connect it to the 12 volt radio connection which goes off with ignition switch . Keep socket in glove box when not in use. The supply to the glove box light also goes off when the ignition switch is off ,to save draining the battery. This may be easier to connect . Both are fused I believe about 10 amps.

Just my 2p.

My Garmin sat nav fits perfectly under where the heat controls are. If you run your hand underneath you will feel a flat surface which the adhesive disc will stick to. Then you just place the suction cup onto that and hey presto - no nasty sat nav-on-dash! In fact it looks like it was supposed to be there! blends nicely with the fascia. I find its a much better place for it to live, as it is close to the cigarette lighter, out of sight to passers by yet I can still see it whilst driving, and if I do require it to be on the dash, then its not a major hassle to do so!

Thanks guys for the answers and your advice

I will check halfords and see what they can do, but im quite fussy so would be fitting it myself if I choose to hardwire it.

I like the idea of fitting it under the heater controls as I never use that area much.

Thanks

Oh and it still picks up perfect signal being in that location, so no worries there.
