Its Definitely Broken

Featured Replies

I've been having problems with stutter and splutter for days and have already posted twice on the subject

Slightly annoying stutter and hesitation

VRS Hesitation

Life threatening lack of brakes

Aaargh. Brakes Failed!

An ODBC Scanner pulled the following codes

17579

17987

16514

17705

01314

I've taken the engine cover off and this is what was lurking underneath

A new part is obviously needed - the problem is that I've no idea what to ask the dealer to order.

What on earth should I ask for?

Also, would a leak here lead to no depression in the brake servo (and no brakes)?

Thanks

Oh yeah, some other members thought that the hose from the manifold to the servo might be jiggered (thanks again for this input), but there is no sign of damage on this hose, so maybe this can be ruled out.

looks like the rocker cover breather pipe. try and get a part number off it

i got one from volksbits, its only a breather pipe, nout to worry about that, common for going soft and splitting

Hi there the Part number is 06A103221AH. It is a cam cover breather pipe.

It will cure some of your problems, but not the splutter and hesitation, as I see you have the trusty 17705 error code. That one is your temp sensor part number 059919501A. Sits in a housing directly under that breather hose by a circlip you pull out. When that sensor fails your cold starting and initial running is effected, sometimes quite badly with erratic revs, as the car thinks it is at normal operating temp when it could be infact cold and require more fuel/air mix. You will loose some coolant removing it

looks like this and is the same p/n. they are the same for all VAG 1.8 turbos :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-DUEL-TEMP-TEMPERATURE-SENSOR-GREEN-4-PIN-GOLF-etc_W0QQitemZ170421274649QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item27ade64819

when replaced those 2 items you will probably find all those error codes go. may need a VAGCOM reset to clear them.

hope this helps

Fantastic. Thanks everyone for your help.

I need to sort the car out Saturday morning so reckon I'll have to get the parts from the local Skoda dealership. Hope this doesn't hurt the wallet too much!

I think the sensor is around £22.

The breather pipe not sure but expect it will be around £30.

Not much change from £50 if any.

If you do a search in several VW, SEAT or AUDI forums, you will find that this crankcase Split Breather hose 06A103221AH are prone to fail. Its look like is made of garbage quality. :wonder:

Some people inclusive has install a new one and later find is broken again.

Dont know the cost of that OEM part but for a few $ you can buy a metre of a nice color oil hose, a T conector and do yourself a cool looking aftermarket fix. B)

Check these pics so you get the idea.

Good luck,

Isaac

would only do the silicone route if i was fitting a catch tank as how you have done it above still means that your putting all the crappy oil vapour straight back into the itake system and giving the turbo and intercooler a nice coat of oil lol

my advise would be put the oem part on for short term and long term look at getting an oil catch tank fitted

coolant temp sensor you need 059 919 501 A £25.90 plus vat part number of the hose is 06A 103 221 BH £27.97 + vat

Thanks again to all who replied.

I've replaced all the bits mentioned and cleaned the TB. I've also done an oil change with fully synthetic and reset the DTC codes.

Its running like a sewing machine - currently.

Fingers crossed it stays that way

Cheers
