Hi is the rear axle on the mk2 octavia the same as a mk4 or a mk4 golf.

It will have more in common with a Mk5, not sure if they are identical.

Mk4's have swing arm, Mk5's are independent.

Exact same chassis as the mk 5 golf

well basically I have a complete rear axcle of a mk5 golf complete with shocks, hubs and springs........ should I then keep the original octavia springs and shocks?

Aren't the same as the Golf Plus/Jetta? I know when I tested drove a Golf mk5 car it felt very different then Oct2 and Jetta.

Erm no they ain't! They are the exact same parts.

The Golf weighs virtually the same, or in many cases more, than the equivalent Octavia. With the same engines, gearboxes, wheelbase, track etc it is clear that the rear cannot weigh more! Indeed a simple check of the part numbers, from shock absorber manufacturers for example, will confirm that the parts are the same.
