MK2 Rear axle is same as mk4 or mk5 golf?

Featured Replies

Hi is the rear axle on the mk2 octavia the same as a mk4 or a mk4 golf.

It will have more in common with a Mk5, not sure if they are identical.

Mk4's have swing arm, Mk5's are independent.

Exact same chassis as the mk 5 golf

thanks guys.... that was fast....well impressed

The rear of the octy2 is much heavier than the golf 5 due to the longer overhang, so the springs and shocks are very different.

well basically I have a complete rear axcle of a mk5 golf complete with shocks, hubs and springs........ should I then keep the original octavia springs and shocks?

any one???

I think, if you told us what you are trying to achieve we could answer your question.

Being vague and asking "any one ???" twenty minutes after your last post, again with very little information, will get you no where!

Aren't the same as the Golf Plus/Jetta? I know when I tested drove a Golf mk5 car it felt very different then Oct2 and Jetta.

There's a

Self-study programme pdf about the Golf mk5 which I got hold of a few months ago which is very interesting to read on how the car works.

I don't think I should post them hear - I could ..... msg me!

Erm no they ain't! They are the exact same parts.

The Golf weighs virtually the same, or in many cases more, than the equivalent Octavia. With the same engines, gearboxes, wheelbase, track etc it is clear that the rear cannot weigh more! Indeed a simple check of the part numbers, from shock absorber manufacturers for example, will confirm that the parts are the same.
