Drivers wiper hitting side of windscreen

Featured Replies

Just wondering if any body is experiencing the same as I on my Superb?

When the wipers are working, the drivers side wiper hits the plastic at the side of the windscreen when it reaches the end of it's upward sweep with a loud thunk, :@

I first noticed this on a long drive across the continent, but never mentioned it on it's first service as it went away. However with the recent rains, it's reappeared and is very annoying.

I will ring the dealer and enquire in the morning, but just wanted to sound out the people in the know

Hi Beaker

happened to my Octavia after they fitted a new windscreen.

Obviously they mounted the drivers side wiper arm one click wrong.

It shouldnt touch the A pillar.

Why pay money to the dealer for such a easy fix ?

all you need is a 13mm spanner, flip off the cover of the nut, undo the 13mm nut and ease off the spline (noting where it is) and move it one spline away from the pillar

refit the nut and tighten, if it still does it, do it one more time, making sure the nut is tight, and refit cover.

Once you have the spanner in your hand, ten minutes and job done !

Car should be still under warranty, if so, let the dealer fix it.

(on my car I did it myself.)

I thought it would be an easy fix, thanks....but thing that troubles me, is the fact that from new wiper never hit the A pillar, then it did, then it didn't, now it does again. By moving the wiper arm, am I masking something else?

The cause is simply that the arm retaing nut has worked slightly loose and the splines can slip just ease the nut a little more, the arm can be reset quite aesily as the taper is now released. In the 40 years as a motor vehicle technician I came upon this problem many times, if your car is under warranty get the dealer to fix it, it will take less than 2 minutes, I had the same problem with my vehicle. It sounds like it could be a common fault.

Just had the same problem with my Yeti. Think all the snow they have had to work against knocked them out of position. Took her to the dealers; adjusted no charge :)

this happened to the demo car i had from Skoda , the wipers shifted postition and ended up right off the screen , seems they dont grip well on the shafts , easy job to reposition but they shouldnt move , i bet the dealer accuses you of misuse ie clearing snow with the wipers

Yep, happened to me too, and definitely because of the snow it was whacking down on, changed the sweep arc of the wipers... it was fixed under warranty here in Prague.....
