New car - pick up before 1st March?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We're off on holiday on the 1st o March, the same day that our new Octavia vRS is due. We're facing a bit of hassle in having to drop off our old car at the dealers and swap over to the new on the day of our holiday. Anyone know if dealers sometimes allow the car to be picked up early, even the day before? That way we could load our new car up and head off on holiday.

Perhaps they could deliver it to our driveway on the understanding we don't drive it until the 1st of March?

I would call the dealer but we only booked today and our dealer is closed tomorrow.

Cheers.

If a factory order, then 1st March is optomistic. Are you sure they didnt say AFTER the 1st?

Why not simply pick it up when you return?

i've seen the occasional new registration a day or 2 before registration launch, i assume this is why you have wait till 1st march? depends on the dealer i guess, but the car is not to be driven before the 1st date of registration on the road but i assume they can deliver to your driveway

Not sure I understand. Why is 1st March optimistic? Do you know when I ordered it or something?

Why not pick it up on my return? Because I have a brand new car to play in, that's why!

We had a new reg delivered in July (for August 1st) a few years ago for similar reasons to yours, it had to come on a low loader and we where told it would be a big nono if it was seen on the road before the day of registration.

Sorry, misread book as ordered.

When did you actually order? The issue comes if you want a '10 plate, then you have to pick up after midnight that day at the earliest. Does the dealer not open mega early on new reg day?

If you want it transporting expect a hefty bill!

Do garages still do midnight openings for the new registration?

They could possibly deliver it on trade plates to your driveway and you leave it there until you get back?

I know a few people to have cars delivered to their driveways on the promise of not driving it, expect to pay for the priviledge though.

Just put the miles on the old car and collect your new one a few days later, when you're back.

Putting miles on the old car is not an option, the MOT and insurance runs out on midnight last day of February. Anyway, thanks for all your help, dealer got back to me and the new car won't be ready in time anyway "problems with the system meaning lots of cars are delayed". So they're going to give me a loan car FOC for my holiday.
