Octavia 1.6fsi what should I look for

Featured Replies

Hey all am looking for some advice I am thinking of buying an octavia 1.6fsi 06plate which has around 50000 miles on the clock what sort of things should I be looking out for and what mechanical things will or should be needing done

Nothing really they are usually very reliable. If it's an Elegance make sure everything works and most importantly make sure it has been serviced. Check the MOT for any advisorys.

When does the cambelt need changed on these??

They are chain cam so no rubber belts needed! Same as the 1.4tsi on sale now.

That's why you need to make it has oil changes on time.... Also look to see if on fixed servicing (eg yearly) rather than viarbile (upto 2 years). Most people now think fixed is the way to go unless you are a fleet or spend all day on moterway.

I've had my '06 1.6FSI for a couple of months now and so far no problems (but it has only done 27K). It seems to be a good engine choice, though it does stuggle a little fully loaded with people and luggage on steep uphills, but no more so than my previous Nissan 1.6

What you can look forward to is good fuel economy and smooth, quiet progress.

And like all fsi/tfsi they like 97 to 99 ron super fual vs the norm 95. "As useing 95 may lead to head damage after a few years" the press say

Well it may like it, but at 5p per litre more than regular unleaded it's not about to get it!

The owners manual notes that it can use 95 RON with just a slight reduction in performance.

I think you will find the exta cost will near pay you back in mpg extra you go on a tank.

When you get the car try two tank fills and see how much more you get, you will be surprised!

That's what I thought but the dealer said 80k for belt change (this was just after another person at the dealer said 60k for change). I don't know what the score is, anyone got a concrete answer for this?

They are 110% chain cam, I can send you the spec PDF if you msg me.

Perhaps this is the same dealer that told me to wash car in ferry washing up!

Just one thing is it 100% a fsi not the older mpi? You can tell by badge on back with words FSI under octavia.

Hmm, having been offered similar advice by Ben @ Shark Performance last week I am going to give it a try...

Currently down to 18 miles worth of the usual Tesco unleaded so going to fill up with V-Power tomorrow and see how it goes (Ben suggested that it would probably take a couple of tanks full to see the difference as the ECU adapts to the higher octane fuel).

I normally get about 460 miles/40+mpg on a tank of regular unleaded and my mix of motorway and local mileage, so I'll post my findings if I see any difference.

We've had a 1.6FSI from new in May 2007, an Ambiente Estate and have been impressed with the car. Early on developed some sort of airlock in washer system and could only fill about half a pint which was quickly used. Bottle replaced under warranty. Couple of sidelight bulbs, until we opened garage door one morning to find it with its windows down. Did it again, dealer replaced key receiver, hasn't reoccured. Little underpowerd if climbing with a full load but makes light work of motorways in this country and Europe, returning about 44mpg. Nothing has fallen off, no rattles, so we're happy owners at 27000 miles.

Just run it on RON 95, it will be fine. All this b0lloks about needing high octane fuel... And can you use

all that power in the snow.......

Higher RON unleaded definitely makes mpg difference of 2-3mpg. My 1.6 FSI jumped from 42-45mpg after switching to momentum 99 although I mostly do motorway miles

Holy thread revival batman, welcome to Briskoda though  :sun:
