Decent headlamp bulb recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Following on from my post about the floor mats, I am similarly underwhelmed with the brightness of the (standard) headlamps on my new FL vRS. Being projectors I thought they'd be pretty good, but sadly they're not. I assume the way forward would be to fit a pair of better brighter bulbs, and would appreciate any recommendations from anyone who may have already done this which ones to get.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Bob.

Philips Xtreme power are the best out there.

Thanks!

I have just put in the Philips Extremes and I have to say I don't rate them as good as the Osram Nightbreakers, I know there will be many on here who don't agree with me. I see that Ring have a new +100% bulb, XenonMax I think, these might be worth a try. One final point............the Osrams although brilliant and bright, don't last very long !!

They will not last long because they run hotter than standard........

ive been in my local motorworld and ring xenon max bulbs were on offer £17.99 i think for the h7 ones, might be worth a go if you have a motorworld nearby.

I'm a sales rep driving 6000kms a month and for safety reasons I like to drive with my lights on, can you imagine how much I'm spending on bulbs !!!

I had phillips extremes in mine for 18 months just had one blow and replaced with Halfords +90's as on offer at the moment 'BOGOF' Light output jusat as good as Phillips, also replaced main beam at the same time, much improved

50w 5000k hid kit for me in a FL vrs. Superb light.

Long life = +30% bulbs.

Not bad life 1 to 2 years per set +50% (Osram silverstars)

Short life but bright +80/90% (Phillips Xtreme/Osram nighbreakers)

Are the bulbs easy to change on the big fat FL headlamp units? I've seen there's a guide on here but judging by the date I assume it refers to the old style headlamps.

Bob.

Pass on the FL, but if it's a similar arrangement to the MK II, then they are not hard... well apart from the sidelight bulbs!

FL VRS doesn't have sidelights... It uses the LED Daytime Running Lights instead.

Am wondering the same about the main beam and dipped headlights though as they don't seem to have the same sort of light output as my Saab did... May have to look into it at the weekend

I'm only going to change the dipped bulbs - I don't have a problem with the mains as they seem very good. May change my mind at some point if the bulbs are easy to change tho.

Ha Ha................I do get out to stretch the legs a couple of times a week. I cover most of Ireland and have accounts spread far and wide, coupled with the fact that business is harder to come by during the big re****ion, I'm finding myself calling to customers two and three times a month.
