FELICIA FUN CONTINUED COLD START TROUBLE

Featured Replies

Hello again,

Well here I am again with a Fun that won't start properly from cold although the misfiring and cutting out in the wet does seem to have been cured by the new coil fitted. So far the Fun has had a new throttle body, coil, cap, leads and arm, the hall sensor has been checked and cleaned and the fuel filter was replaced. Does anyone know if there are any sensors located elsewhere that would affect the car starting and running on the first turn of the key? Once going she runs really well and usually starts on the 3rd turn of the key with no assistance. When she starts and dies it is almost as if there is no choke to keep it running, I can only assume there is something that has been missed on the cold start side of things during its many visits to garages. Any ideas????????????

:) Coolant temperature sensor.

have you had the ecu fault codes read, starting and stopping sounds like an immobiliser fault. maybe try using a spare key if you have one as sometimes the chip in the key can get faulty

I'd agree with Dave; in fact I think this would be one of the first things to try on a cold start problem!

On the positive side, I think you did need the new coil as well.

What about the spark plugs themselves?

first and foremost, as dave has said above, try a new coolant sensor. or just unplug it to see if it makes any difference... also have you checked for fuel leaks at the fuel rail?? when the return hose was seeping on mine it was struggling to hold the pressure high in the rail

Is the coolant sensor located below the distributor? it starts as if there is no choke operating, could this be a symptom of a faulty coolant sensor? The coil has been changed which cured the misfire and cutting out in wet conditions. Will give the coolant sensor a go I have nothing to lose, plugs, leads etc was changed not to long ago, have checked around the manifold and replaced the throttle body aswell and no fuel leaks were spotted. The thing is, it starts 3rd time every time and runs really well once warm. will keep you posted once I have changed the sensor.

like i said, try unplugging it first, the ecu will substitute the signal for the missing sensor, it is possible for the gauge to show the correct temperature but with the ecu seeing something totally different because there are two seperate sensors in the same unit... although i would expect it to start even if the sensor was faulty which is why i was thinking fuel pressure related!

 Thankyou very much, have just been out and disconnected the sensor, started 1st time and idled @ 1100 rpm no coughs or splutters, will be like having a new car again

a new sensor from vw/skoda dealer is about £25, but they are about a fiver from german and swedish, and i believe jorily sells them on ebay.. make sure you replace the rubber o-ring too and be prepared to loose a bit of coolant so don't do it with a hot engine..

you will loose a bit of fuel efficiency without it plugged in, so replace it soon as
