We worked it out.

Its cheaper to get a cheap flight to Cologne, hire a car, rag the nuts off it round the Ring then fly home

This has the fringe benefit that if you do come a cropper, you only end up paying the excess and don't loose the use of your car whilst its being repaired - bargain!

Jon, we're going over between the 8th and 11th August if you fancy it. Me and a few guys from cupra.net and club.gti plus some of the guys from work. However I believe it's the same weekend as the old timers GP so it's probably going to be pretty busy!

Indeed as per phone call, quiet weekend or busy, what ever goes for a first time...as daunting as my first solo..know I can do it, but also know it could go horribly wrong...

Wich dates are you on the holy grounds in June, July and August, Jon. You know I will try to be there to. In september I will be on my summer holiday, but that weekend we return from Austria, so... See you there:-)
