Disconected MAF Vs Limp Mode

Featured Replies

As above.

I disconnected my MAF earlier today to try and pin point a problem I'm having.

When I did the CEL light came on.

The Question is, When I drove it it seemed ok but was low on power past 1500 rpm or so.

Is this limp mode or just the disconnected MAF??

Once reconnected the car went back to having power through the whole rev range. (albeit with the original problem still present)

Anyone got any experiance of the two? Do they generate the same out come or not? And if different whats the above discribing?

When you disconnect the MAF it will drive like a dog, I did mine and it was awful from the word go, re-connected it and it pulled like a train.

One way to check if the MAF is faulty.

What's problem you are having?

I think limp mode only lets you do 30mph too.

Right, after almost needing new pants while tweaking the MAF connector I've been out for a drive. well over 50mph (legally) and it's pulling all the way to the red line so not in limp mode and guessing that means the MAF is functioning as it should after 60k at least.

I still may have foobard it. If I were to ask the question

"How many connections should be present in the MAF plug? 5.. or 6 like the amount of spades in the socket"

I'm assuming it's 5 and the 6th isn't used as I can't see any golden coloured connector in the 6th hole, I noticed this just after it wouldn't quite go on to the click and that' the point I looked and thought, CAK! Have I bent the 6th connector"..seems not though, I cleaned away some of the Dielectric grease and it went on fine so think I was getting some kind of back pressure from too much grease. So, you CAN use to much grease.

AS for the original problem I'm trying to fix, it's here.. but it could be so many things I think it's going to have to go to a garage.

My other thread fulla issues and my own stupidity!

Limp mode is next to no power at all, you'll stuggle to accellerate... When disconnecting the maf the ecu resorts to a base map as such that doesn't rely on the maf sensor for its fuelling..

Thanks Guys :D

Just thought I'd add this pic I found of the MAF connector on a Transporter someone took while doing the cage mod. Tottaly puts my mind at rest that I'd just missed pin 5 was redundant!
