Induction kits

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I just wanted to ask some questions...

1) Is it worth having an induction kit in a 1.6 Octavia. Have been reading a bit and some say its not worth in smaller engines...but just wanted to confirm.

2) Will installing a full set of exhaust improve performance a lot? Will it have any implications on the fuel economy...I am aware of the fact that more power means less fuel economy but as I said earlier...just to be sure.

Thanks in advance to everyone who replies :)

Hey buddy,

For your first question:

it depends on what you want the induction kit to do, if its for noise etc then i would say yes its worth having,

if your thinking its going to make your car noticably faster, then i would say definatly not.

Second:

You will get a performance increase with a full system exhaust, but probably not great amounts on a 1.6 to be honest, it should not effect your fuel economy at all, all it is really doing it getting rid of waste gasses faster than a standard one.

BUT

chances are with an induction kit and exhaust you will enjoy the sound of your car more, therefore drive it harder and faster, reducing fuel economy

Thanks for the reply mark_sargeant19!

It's the age old question of why pile money into it, when the £££ spent could go towards getting the vrs which will outperform a 1.6 in every way. Obviously it's personal choice and i'm not saying don't enjoy the 1.6.

I do realise the vrs is at least 6 or 7 insurance groups higher, but you should also remember that any modifications you make to your car should be declared and will effect the premium. I used to own a 1.6 and it was a pretty thirsty thing, i'd go as far as to say, both driven normally, you'll see a greater return in mpg in the Vrs than you would in the 1.6.

I.e. You'll be paying more, for something which isn't a whole lot quicker. When you could pay a bit more than that, for something that is. All depends what your idea of value for money is I suppose.

No!

No!

Infact it's a big fat NO NO.
