CV Joint Problem

Featured Replies

Good Day All,

Damn, these skoda's. anyways, i was making a right turn about 90 degrees, and heard a big clicking noise and then all of a sudden no power to the wheels? Called RAC to have my car towed and dude told me its probably my CV joint. The car motor runs fine, and when I started the car for the guy, pressed the pedal, the speedometer moved, but no movement in the car just load creeking noises as something is turning? I have had a VW golf tdi, and knowing that from being stuck in big snow that if you loose traction to one wheel eventually both stop working? Just waiting for the garages to open up on Monday. However from everyone's experience, is this most likely, a outer cv joint failure? and also could there be potential tranny problems? But symptoms say outer cv joint?

Thank you

yep, cv joint failure, what happens is the diff is sending all the drive to side which is easiest to rotate, the side that is no longer attached to a wheel on the road, hence loads of noise under the car from the broken cv joint flailing about

If your lucky CV joint. If your unlucky, the diff crown wheel has come off the carrier (riveted on). CV joint usually keep working even when they start clicking. Defo something broken in the drive train.

thanks for the responses, had a look underneath today, seems like the right side has completely gone, as i was able to take some ball bearings out, in addition i had a look at the left side, and its a matter of time before it goes because there is a cut in the rubber gaiter and alot of grease around the area... attachments to the tranny look good from what i can see...freaking one probably after another...anyone want to buy a fixed skoda fabia as of tomorrow?

Thanks again
