Was reading on another forum about special procedures to change a battery on a can bus Citroen, (turn off wait 3 mins, etc etc). As the Octavia is can bus is there any special routine for changing battery, to stop faults showing.

It can't hurt to wait for 15 minutes before you change it if you want to be certain.

Cannot answer your question, but one thing you would have to do is reset your windows, but so you don't have any issues, why not get another battery (poss on someone else's car) and connect with jump leads from theres to yours but connect just to the terminals and leave connected while you exchange to the new one, and this way you won't loose any settings.

Wonder if wiring 2x6v batteries into the accessory socket (or even one of those accessory socket 'jump leads') would do the same thing? I wouldn't like to have live jump leads on terminals *off* the battery inside the engine compartment. To easy to short out on any exposed metalwork.

You can buy things where you put a 9V battery in and then put it in the lighter socket to retain settings.
