Dash Insert Replacement - is this a big & expensive job?

Featured Replies

Picked up my Vrs on Friday, after it had spent 3 days in the dealer trying to get the persistent misting up sorted - quite a few threads about the problem on here - I've been plagued in the two+ years I've owned the car, to the extent I was (again )seriously considering getting rid of it, as the warranty is about to expire and it's the one problem that has tainted an otherwise relatively trouble free & enjoyable car.

Anyway - apparently it's fixed this time so hopefully no more pools of water in the spare wheel well & no more chronically misted up windowns (I've heard that a few times over the last two years - so I'll reserve judgement for now) - a gromet on the rear wash wipe was replaced, the boot seal 'fixed' (again), along with the lock (again) & my tailgate reset (apparently it wasn't straight???)

To my 'initial' disappointment I was told on picking the car up, 'it'll need to come in again' - thinking it was something to do with misting & lack of parts, I was thinking (oh not again - we've been here before too). Then to my surprise - I've was told the car needs a new 'dash insert' - this apparently came to light when they put it on the computer to check the poor starting that has been common of late - it's already had two oil temp sensors & it was showing a fault again - but they've decided it needs a new dash insert.

I am guessing that this is a big & expensive job - would I be right? if so fair play to them because I've less than a month left on my warranty ! Should I have any concerns over them doing this work - a quick surf on here makes me think it's a tricky one??

I am now in a real quandry about taking out some sort of extended warranty, after stating in the past I didn't think they were worth the money ! I probably plan to keep the car for another year at least.

I picked my new Octavia up 5 weeks ago to find there was a fault with the dash, when i switched the lights on other warning lights were glowing on. They told me it was the dash insert and they had to order it in, after fitting it was fine and took them aprox 2 hours. They told me that it could cause all sorts of problems it it hadn't been changed straight away. Not sure on cost but hey, if its done under warranty hey hey! ;)

I fit new vRS Maxidot panels for £325 so not that expensive to have done privately. Almost treble that at a dealer.
