Getting radio code from skoda dealer

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

i have purchased STREAM stereo unit for my octavia from ebay and need to get radio code.

If i take my octavia with STREAM stereo fitted to dealer would they be able to get radio code for me? Do i need to supply dealer with original vehicle chassis number where stream stereo orginates from or not??

Reagards

Yes, you would need the original VIN.

Might have an issue getting the code, as codes are no longer given out, and your car isnt CAN based. The car must be connected at a dealership. And most will charge for this.

hello gadgetman,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes my car does have can bus wire at the back orange black or orange brown not sure. I dont mind paying, but only issue that i am having at the moment is that ebuy seller doesnt have/cannot find original chassis number now? how typical?

Is there any chance that skoda dealer can get code without original vehicle chassis number?

Regards

No, they wont give you it without - to combat vehicle theft. A reg number will suffice though.

I thought you have a Mk1? If so, your car isnt CAN equiped

Hello gadgetman,

Thanks for your reply

No my skoda isnt connected to can system, checked tonight. I belive i have imagined it somehow????

I have found someone local who can retrive code for me but they charge £35.

will keep you all updated how i get on.

Regards

The MKI is CAN equipped, though it uses K line for the diagnostics. The radio will be on the convenience CAN bus, otherwise it will require an extra vehicle speed sensor and wiring for the speed related volume control and anti hijack door locking. As it is, this signal is sent to the engine control unit, from where it gets encoded into a CAN message and sent to the convenience CAN through the gateway.

You didn't imagine the CAN wires.

hello fordfan,

sorry for such a late reply, you have completelly confused me now. First of all i was so sure about can bus line on octavia mk1 and then someone suggested that mk1 doesnt have can bus line. Then i checked octavia mk1 and it appeared it didnt have can bus.

Have to check this again tonight,

it bugs me now

Regards

No problem getting my radio code from a main dealer. Just took my car registeration document with me and some form of ID.

It cost me nothing to get the code and the kind partsman even put the code in the radio for me.

He certainly did'nt mess about with the diagnostic socket.
