Fuggin potholes

Featured Replies

The roads round here have started to disintegrate rapidly. They we're not too bad before but they're crumbling now.

I hit a pothole on friday, don't think it was that big but I never saw it. It was a hell of a thump and now the car is pulling left. Fingers crossed it's just tracking.

Then I hit yet another one this morning, not as bad as Friday but still significant.

I've not seen a single road getting repaired yet.

all the pavements are falling apart too.

Try hitting the same pothole again, but this time from the other direction with the other wheel. Might even things out :giggle:

But, seriously the road are in a shocking state everywhere. I'm doing some serious swerves to avoid most at the moment. I know it's dangerous but it is a natural reaction to try and avoid them.

Got to give respect to Southampton council. They are doing a fantastic job of filling all the potholes.

They even seem to be sorting problems in the road that have been there for years (i wont moan about that at the moment)

Can you ask them to pop up to Warrington and have a go up here then please? Nothing been touched here, yet they have the time to rip up the roads to put gas in for a shop!

Snap!! And, of course it's still too dark to even see half of them properly!

I managed to just miss one not too far from home which was about 6 inches deep and quite big - that one was filled by the time I went back home, which actually surprised me! Why they didn't do more at the same time I have no idea!

Ah and best one was on the A444 before the cold weather - it looked like a grid in the road had gone - again, I managed to swerve around it - I pity any poor bugger that hit that one! The police got a call about that!

Not seen the Council repairing road but they have notified us that the Gas Board will be digging up two of the main roads in town.

Yes while they were a lot cr*p at dealing with pavements, they have repaired most of the pot holes around us already.

Some are proper repairs that were scheduled anyway, others are cut and fill jobs. These however are much better than a great big hole.

we have loads still around our area, and the council dont seem to do owt about it. its like this :wall:

I've taken to bombarding my local council "report a pothole" website out of sheer frustration :@:@ and I'm considering booking my self in at the spinal injury clinic :D

Loads here as well! Everyone is sick of them, I dread to think of the damage it does to my car :(

There is loads in Kent too. There is one which I drive past and there is a traffic cone in it about 3/4 deep, its huge. Been there for a week, I would take a photo but Im not that sad (yet).

Some roads up here are shocking, pot holes appearing daily.

Why the f*&k do we pay road tax if it's not to help look after them..... :wonder:

Step 1 - find your local County Council website .

Step 2 - find their road defect page

Step 3 - report pothole etc ,and ask for confirmation of report

Step 4 -on same website ,identify your County councillor .

Step 5 - after adecent period ,ask said county man why pot hole still exists ,with copies of reports .Usually guaranteed to get hot poker up bum of road repair section .

just spent about £160 on car after run in with pothole.

2 x dented wheels (Front left and rear left)

Front tracking out.

Rear tracking out.

Was just as the snow was melted and it was hidded by a load of slush.

Despite reporting these things via the council website nothing seems to get done, or they do one side of the road and not the other?

The A419 between the M5 and Stonehouse is terrible if you are heading to stonehouse, yet about a week ago they did the heading to the M5 side??

Have you had a look at potholes.co.uk? They have all the procedures you need to claim money from the council.

:'( It's not the tracking.

Chap at the tyre place was describing it as "off centre steering" because the car isn't pulling as such and still drives/brakes true and straight. But he steering wheel is definitely off by 5-10deg to drive it straight.

It was doing this a little before but it's worse now.

It's in for a service on Tuesday anyway. I'm going to go take a picture of the hole just in case I need to claim. Hopefully it's nothing massively expensive but that's not likely is it :(

unfrotunately most councils have been chronically underfunding road maintenance and renewal for years and years - and this is what you end up with. With better maintenance they wouldn't have broken up as badly...

Funny all the roads near me that I know have been fully resurfaced in the last 5 years or so are fine.

It is the roads they've not touched (except for emergency repairs) in 20 years that look like bomb sites.

They simply haven't done their job/spent the money where they should have.

One of the excuses that keeps cropping up is that NOT repairing broken surfaces slows cars down and is therefore good!

What about pedestrians and cyclist and mobility scooters and braking/directional control and very expensive damage to cars?

Surely this is the idea time for the government to step in.

Most of the money we pay for fuel goes straight in their pocket, why cant they actually put some of that back into the roads? Hell, i'll happily take an extra penny or two hit a litre, if they guarantee it goes straight into the roads.

I've heard that before and did suggest to one of the local highways officers I was dealing with on a "traffic calming" project that the project wasn't needed because of the condition of the roads... His response suggested that he thought the same but was unable to change the funding regime or priorities...

The potholes I have reported via my local authorities highways website have all been filled within 48hrs, so at least I can drive around the local area without risking a buckled wheel or split tyre.

TBH -the bad potholes in this area (Warks) ,that I've reported on line seem to get done quickly .But I make sure I get a reply confirming reciept .Think that's also been put into the system after a spate of "lost " reports .

It's the minor niggles -like a resurfaced road ,where they spopped the new surface short of a raised island, leaving a dip ,that feels like a crator at 15mph ,with my 14" wheels .It's on "observation" for now .

Ta for that. Went out and took some photos in the dark last night.

Found the pot hole or pole holes more accurately. It's a series of ever increasing gouges out the road like a farmer had dropped a plough to start it off.

Not that deep though maybe 2" but I would have been on the brakes when I hit it.

Mechanic hubby of friend thinks it's odd that any damage could have been done to that wheel whilst keeping the wheel alignment sport on.

Could the steering rack have been damaged by it or could the pot hole just be incidental?
