Anyone used 'ATE power discs' before?

Featured Replies

Looking to change my front discs and pads soon,

Has anyone used 'ATE power discs' before?

I am concerned that they might make a loud whirring noise or rumbling noise when under heavy braking.

does anyone have any experience with these particular discs ?

Power discs for my car are something like £40 each plus vat, from Eurocarparts.

They also stock regular plain oem PAGID discs for something like £20-25 each plus vat.

Just wondering if anyone out here has actually first hand experience of using ATE power discs before?

I had a set on a mk2 Golf Gti about ten years ago, they warped badly after around 18 gentle months/15000 miles...

Never tried them!

I just went bigger, 2x312mm Delphi discs for £63.50 all in!

I've used them previously on 3 of my mk2 Golfs and they were fine, used them with standard pads and never had any issues at all. Having said that I wasn't aware of them improving the braking performance either

I've used them twice on a B5 Passat 4Motion, but only for reasons that make these cars a bit scary in cold salty wet driving conditions (the callipers are at the rear of the hub so get swamped with water leading to trouser spoiling effects at motorway speeds after a long period of cruising without using brakes) - and they do the job of helping to clear water and keep the pads clear of glazing.

They are not too noisy on the Passat after running them in, they don't shorten the pad life by much if any and the pads are kept from glazing as I said already. I've got nothing bad to say about them except the prices seem to be rocketing a bit - same source as you ECP as they are sole importers of ATE aftermarket bits to UK market. Pagid pads tend to be what VAG use on the front of most cars - Textar on rear - same trading group - ie TMD Friction. The small bonus is, apart from clearing water, which is not so much an issue with "front mounted" callipers, that the grooves also serve as wear indicators - smart - eh?
