New 50w HID's fitted!

Featured Replies

Well, what can I say - I am blown away! 4300k HID kit from HID's Direct (great customer service) and I did have doubts about what they would be like even though I have projectors in the headlights... I needn't have worried!! Very sharp cut-off and not one flash all evening.

Wonderful white light and so much better than anything I have ever had before.

I also have a couple of 2w LED Sidelights to complement them and these also do an amazing job.

That's the front lights sorted now - time to start on the rears :D

Dead chuffed!

I will do - need to get the camera out :)

See, I'm right ;)

Can you post exactly what kit it is, because they have a few different ones. Yours seems to be compatible with the CAN BUS system on the Octy.

Does this convert both dipped and high beam?

I've got Xenons coming on my new FL vRS, does anyone know if can I convert the high beam to a Xenon as well?

Did you fit yourself, and if so was it an easy job?

It is dipped only - no bi-xenon sadly,

I have never done anything like these before and only took just over an hour from start to finish. Was pretty straight forward :)

Was going to take some pics this morning in the car park at work but was loads of people stood around - sods law! They already think I am strange for Showroom Shining my car in the car park at lunch ;)

Will get some up tonight :)

You can get Xenons for the Main Beam but to be honest why would you? Unless you are constantly driving along dark unlit roads i would just stick with Osram Nightbreakers.

I put those in mine and the difference over normal bulbs is vast. A friend of mine has his main, dip and foglights all in xenons but personally i think it's overkill

@ Rincey - Andy told you they had good customer service

Which 2w led sidelights did you get im interested in those ;)

I guess that question can be boiled down to "why do they make Bi-Xenons at all?". I suppose the difference is less apparent on the high beam and those Osram bulbs are good (I've got them in my Fabia at the moment). I think the main reason I would want to do it is "because I can" ;)

And the bi-Xenon's, don't they have like a 'flasher' light as well as a Xenon high beam? I recall reading that.

@Carl - yeah, very happy with the service :)

The sidelights are these:

No OBC errors and because they hide behind patterned plastic on the lights, all you see is a nice bright white light - not cheap at a tenner each, but best I have tried and sooo much better than the £1.99 specials from Ebay! ;)

Hmm i only paid £15.37 for both ;) ;) :p

Hehe how did you manage that :D

They are nice though - really bright white. Looks so much better! :)

i have a 20% discount code

Hopefully these will work better than the last ones that i had. They caused the indicators to flash rapidly or made the ecu think they weren't working causing bulb error warnings. all this happened after about 4 weeks of having them in

hehe well I can confirm there are no errors at all with these - all steady as a rock :)

Bi-xenon's are just one bulb (with a 'shutter' over the bulb making the beam go from dipped to main beam).

The problem with xenon's in a normal main beam light is the constant turning on and off, xenon's need a few seconds to warm up to give out their optimum output, coupled with every time you flash your headlights you will be seriously reducing their longevity (they hate being 'turned' on and off again within a short period, this is why bi-xenon equipped cars also have a halogen bulb for flashing purposes).

Gotcha. Now I understand, thanks for the explanation. I'll just make sure I've got a decent bulb in my main beam then.

Just called them and ordered some, they should be here tommorow :)

Rincey did you put the ballast in the headlamp unit or did you fix on the outside ?

I actually put it on the outside by putting a 25mm hole in the back of the casing. However, I think I understand how this can all be sealed inside by breaking off a couple of the locating clips which server no other purpose than to make sure you get it on the right way - I might re-do this at sometime and see if it all fits inside :)

Gotta say, it is a bit of a bugger trying to find somewhere to fix them to so just ended up cable-tying them - they will do for now till I get a nice Sunday so I can do something else!

Edited by Rincey

cool carnt beat cable ties lol

i was just thinking of (if any) heat from the ballast

Got any photos yet ?

Need a bit of light for inside the engine, but I will get some pics up when it goes dark of the lights themselves - you wont be sorry. When you switch them on and they keep getting brighter and brighter... very sexy!

I have the 50w 5000k kit in mine and one light intermittently comes off and on. Have emailed HID Direct but no reply. Anyone got a number for them?
