New 50w HID's fitted!

Featured Replies

I have never done anything like these before and only took just over an hour from start to finish. Was pretty straight forward :)

Good job that (seen your YouTube vid..).. Hopefully if I can fit them to my VX220, I should be able to fit them to the Skoda! Just need to decide whether to go this route, or try the Phillips/Osram route first..

Xenons are B) though so I think I know what I'm going to do..

Well mines in and working fine, a few snaps added

what to do with my ballast's were the biggest problem so i know its a bit of a bodge but will sort out sometime soon

Was there any cutting of wires involved or a strait plug and play?????? good pics BTW

How much are replacement bulbs should you need one can they be got anywhere??/

Resized to 94% (was 640 x 480) - Click image to enlarge

Just spotted your deliberate mistake BTW, how do you remove the plastic nut if you need to change a bulb

Edited by skippy41

Simple mate just plug and play the only cut i made was the cover that fits over the back of the lamp unit "Rincey" did the same i beleave

the only hard bit was which wire was live, but the meter sorted that (purple with blue tracer = pos & Brown = Neg)

What plastic nut ? do you mean the clear plastic ring with the wires on pic one ? mmmmm i wasnt sure how to remove it so i took to it with some side cutters :)

install time about 1.5 hours but i was doing a fair bit of chatting, coffee drinking, smoking etc lol

Replacment bulbs ? fleabay about £20 for a pair, Bulbs have an average lifetime of 2500 hours

My box which made me smile said (50w 4300 bulb life 2,00 hrs) best get some spares lol

The plastic nut in pic 4 the one you undo before you yank the lamp removal hook

Do you have to make any direct connections to the battery ?

You can see the glare/scatter quite clearly in the after pics, that you wouldnt get with a proper factory fitted Xenon kit.

The light cut off isnt focused as well, and isnt as definitive as the real deal is.

And the halogens appear to have more scatter.

So it's better :)

I must be missing something because the HID's appear to be more defined!

I have still not been flashed on any road! They are fantastic and with the projectors, are so much better than the halogens and the road in front of you is a lovely bright white.

Anyone with halogens should do this - it is worth every penny and does not scatter, despite what others say - very defined light :)

@gadgetman - maybe it isnt as defined as an £800 option, but loads better than the halogens - sorry but I have these in the car now and not had a scrap of bother and can see so much more without dazzling anyone else!

i Agree with rincey, ive been driving around all weekend with not one flash, im inpressed :)

Allen no direct connections to the battery required

Got a set in the boot at the moment waiting to go in - 50w but 6000k... along with +30 Main Beams and uprated sidelights... Hoping for a good improvement

You will notice a whole world of difference :D

I am gonna get some ring 100w for my main beam I think as they seem to get good results - right now my dipped beam are more effective than my main beam! lol :D

Do you know the approx dimensions of the ballasts (will they fit inside the rear covers of the headlamps)? Also, do the ballasts get hot when the lights are on? I run with DRL's and naturally concerned about the ballasts/bulbs overheating and/or failing early.

Thanks.

They do fit inside the covers if you break two of the clips off, but I drilled the cover and mounted them close by :)

Not sure if they get hot or not - not checked!
